Press Release
Detachable Controllers Reinvent Gaming

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In an introductory video released today, Nintendo provided the first glimpse of its new home gaming system and revealed that it is called Nintendo Switch. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.

At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them. Some of the publishers, developers and middleware partners announcing support for Nintendo Switch are as follows:

So we basically got a Vita/Vita TV bundle, that's kinda a bit of a letdown. I know you need gimmicks to stay ahead of the curb but sometimes less is more Nintendo

Except unlike the Vita and the PStv.. This one is unlikely to have games that go "Hahaha! Won't work on the PSTV... Why? WHY THE HELL NOT! EFF YOU!" even though said games runs with absolutely no fricken problem on the PSTV

300 posts in yeah who wouldn't.

It's a devkit though. There is only one report on it. Geo is a respectable hacker but I'd rather see a Gaming news cast with a reliable source.

Not bad being maxwell, I'd prefer pascal but eh you have to cut costs somewhere.

Probably see the same performance as a gtx 950 but the RAM is shared and probably a bit slower.

What's more interesting is the API nVidia made with Nintendo. With nVidias name behind it, it should be pretty powerful.

Personally I'm an AMD fan but it's nice to see Nintendo go to the higher quality nVidia alternative.

I'd be willing to bet it's fairly accurate. It can change from devkit to release. Some smartphones have been know to have a last minute upgrade in processors.

I'd be interested in knowing if there's just one or two processors. Most smartphones that boast 8 cores will have to quad core processors. I'm thinking this is probably more along the lines of what this will have, but I could be wrong. I hope I'm right. My old s5 has a quad core.

I'm an nvidia guy myself. It's nice to see somebody go with nvidia for once, rather than amd or ibm.

On the bright side you can play local 2p and vertically. Also there might be a classic variation?

Soon enough third party controllers will come to the rescue.
I hope so. I want a GameCube styled Joy Con

I'd say there is still a little time for Nintendo to work on the aesthetics of the unit. The detachable controllers look a bit awkward to use in multiple form, because one person has to extend their left thumb, and the other has to extend their right thumb.

As for statements from 2K and Bethesda representatives......I don't know if anyone noticed, but look at how similar the two read. For something that reads so similar, it can't be coincidence. It may be a generic line they are under NDA to say regarding the trailer, titles, etc.

What're the improvements you can think of compared to the original gamecube controller?

I agree about it being a generic line, they most likely can't say anything specific yet so they gave a general answer.

Brings down the cost. A smart decision.
Just seems odd to me being that PS4 and XBone have camera accessories. WiiU and 3DS (DSi) had camera's... Not a bad idea but not very Nintendo.

Who even used the Wii U camera? What was the Wii U camera even used for? That video chat app literally nobody ever used?
Never played WiiU lol :ha:

No need. PS4 and XBone are more for tracking than typical camera much like vr sensors or wii receivers. Wiiu and 3ds cameras are too bad anyway. But nothing is for certain.

3DS camera is total crap, never tried the Wii U camera because I have literally no idea what it's used for (Wii U chat? I don't use that)

Hell froze over, even Microsoft is praising Nintendo and the Switch in a very professional way

http://nintendoeverything.com/xbox-boss-microsofts-aaron-greenberg-have-praise-for-switch/

This makes total sense to me, Switch doesn't compete with XB1 in any serious way, it certainly won't have the same horsepower, and will appeal to a a different demographic, look at how they are marketing it, not many stereotypical gamers in that video, they are going after the casual phone gamer. It's also (sort of) a portable, which is a market Microsoft doesn't currently compete in, but their biggest competitor does. When we see tweets out of Sony praising the Switch, then I'll be surprised.
