FREE NINTENDO 3DS GAME DEMOS HEAD TO NINTENDO ESHOP

Resident Evil Revelations Demo Available Tomorrow

REDMOND, Wash., Jan. 18, 2012 - Nintendo 3DS™ owners soon will be able to play free downloadable demo versions of select games. Starting tomorrow, owners can go to the Nintendo eShop to download a free demo version of Resident Evil® Revelations from Capcom. A free demo version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games™ published by SEGA will launch on Jan. 26. The Nintendo eShop will be periodically updated with new game demos.

"The demo program allows Nintendo 3DS players to be among the first to test-drive select games," said Tony Elison, Nintendo of America's senior director and general manager of Network Business. "Players can try out new genres or series, often weeks before the full versions are available in stores."

Additional demos coming soon include Rayman® Origins from Ubisoft and METAL GEAR SOLID® Snake Eater 3D from Konami Digital Entertainment. Specific dates and other games in the demo program will be announced at a later time.

Finally! I can't wait to abuse the Revelations demos. At least NoA was fairly prompt this time around. I'm also looking forward to the Rayman Origins demo ^^.

EDIT: Demos for Europe confirmed as well: http://3ds.nintendolife.com/news/2012/01/3ds_demos_launch_in_europe_eshop_tomorrow
EDIT 2: And apparently the confirmation was made by NoE first followed by confirmation by NoA.

So excited for this. Gotta see RE:Revelations myself to understand all the praise, hype and criticism. Cannot wait to play this. Please post here as soon as any of you see it on eShop. :D

If Nintendo keeps like this, there won't be need for flashcards in the near future. In fact, Nintendo should do an update to get full cartridge games onto SD and i'm sold.

(hint: use the highest encryption level available, i don't care)

It's nice to see that Nintendo is getting with the times.. I really hope they don't mess the online up with the Wii-U, as I'm going to be a day 1 buyer.

Thanks Nin10doe.

Just wondering, if anyone knows, are the demos time-limited or progress-limited? I'm honestly hoping the latter and not the former, at least for RE, cause I know that it'll be something to mess with when I'm bored.

No no no lol, Nintendo of Europe comfirmed it first before NOA.
NoA did confirm it though for America and NoE confirmed it for Europe.

I think they're time limited, and you can only play them a certain number of times as well.

IIRC The japanese demo's had a 30-play limit, but if you didn't properly close it(like just leave it in standby or on the home menu without closing), you could play forever. xD

Hah, I hope they didn't fix that in the EU/NA versions. :P

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
