They have the lowest failure rate. Also nintendo had signed a ridiculously long contract for parts when the wii was selling like crack
Coming from an industry background, that is one stupid contract to sign. Single sourcing is bad for any company regardless of failure rate since the cost of not having a product to sell is much higher for Nintendo than having to fix 6 NAND caused failures instead of 5 :(

While I am nearly always up for a fight with procurement (marketing being my number one target) I would have to wonder if they are not locked in because they were the ones to offer some magic sauce crypto for the NAND.
