Nintendo? Oh Nintendo, Nintendo, Nintendo. You lied to us. You're awful. A joke. Or would be, if Greenpeace joked about this kind of thing, instead of frowning and tutting and generally being upset. Across the board they've got no idea, and failed every single category they were being assessed on. Indeed, things are so bad for the clean, wholesome family fun merchants that they're the first "global brand" in the history of the report to score zeros across every single assessable category. Final Greenpeace score: 0/10

WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE TREES!?

Seriously though, they only scored zero because they provided/there was no information on their methods.

I'm sure they would have received higher than a .... zero, had Greenpeace bothered to check into it. Nintendo's FAQ on their Help Site has a small part about what they do to help the environment.

Plus Chibi Robo wouldn't stand for that shit, and he works for Nintendo!

You guys know that NOT reporting this information is pretty fucking bad, right? We have no idea what Nintendo is doing environment wise. And while fanboys could get blinded into thinking that zero info should not equal zero score, try passing this off in the business world.

But yes, externalizing costs to the environment can keep prices down.

The point is: they don't know anything without this information. Giving a "score" there is just plain fucking dumb. They should investigate themself, trying to get hold of these numbers. Ask suppliers, subcontractors, anyone. Someone *has* to have them. Hell, they should steal them if they have to. But no numbers, no news.

That's the problem with Greenpeace. They are all about PR and not about the environment anymore. I'm not saying it's bad to tell people that we have a problem - but it certainly is bad to make a whole fucking industry out of that. Greenpeace is corporate indulgence business, nothing else.

What does Nintendo do to help protect the environment?
Nintendo is very concerned with doing our part to help preserve the environment. We're always researching new products and procedures to make our products and operations as environmental-friendly as possible.
Some things Nintendo is already doing:

  * In our offices:
  * We recycle the paper we use company-wide.
  * We limit our use of colored paper, since it's not easily recycled.
  * We purchase recycled paper towels, report covers, message pads, and writing pads.
  * We currently recycle more than 70% of the waste that is generated at our headquarters.
  * We actively promote the recycling of aluminum cans and glass in our corporate cafeterias.

  * In our products:
  * We use at least 80% recycled paper in all of our shipping packaging.
  * We no longer use Styrofoam in our game pak or Game Boy packaging.
  * All of our instruction manuals are printed on recycled paper.
  * We no longer use plastic Game Pak covers.
  * Our clamshell packaging is recyclable and most recycling centers accept it.
  * We require that manufacturers not use any banned substances (such as lead, mercury, etc.) in components, nor use them in the manufacturing process for any components used inside of our products. This requirement also extends to suppliers of packaging, marketing materials, and other items used in the marketing and distribution of our products.

Probably they posted this after this news.

No, they posted that, at the same time Chibi Robot got released... that was 2 months ago?
Maybe Sony gave them a few bucks to talk bad about nintendo, since they SCORED 7, and M$ ONLY 2.5? i mean C'MON, i dont believe M$ only got 2.5 and Nintendo 0, while sony almost got full score.

Wow, a voice of reason and sense in a sea of idiot fanboys who think every single thing nintendo do is great. lol at the "greenpeace should steal the info".

also lol at the "sony/ms paid them off"... sure, it's all a big conspiracy against nintendo. time for the meds.

Also lol at the "greenpeace fails" then link to an article that says arstechnica basically are idiots. Nintendo fail to be accountable and audited and as such deserve the 0. when they are open and honest (and give the indepth info that the article seems to want greenpeace looking at) then their score will improve.

just lol is all you can say to such ignorance, or you'd go insane from thinking about it.

erm, I said full and open info on their business practice - not some spiel on a website (even mcdonalds has that - does that suddenly make them a green company)? There is a little bit more to running a business (green or otherwise) than recycling. (even schoolkids are taught that recycling is the last of the 3 R's).

looks like your smartass needs to get a little smarter.

Don't forget, you're not paranoid if they are really out to get you. JFK didn't work alone. Aliens come to visit everynight. And sony pay off greenpeace. LOL! it's the x-files!
