By faking some header info I suppose?

To me this means they definitely have a way to transfer data between systems. They did say they weren't going to release it, and quite possibly the sheer magnitude of the hack has guaranteed it.

E: To clarify, they have a way to modify the download titles. Once you reach this level it's pretty much guaranteed they actually have the keys to decrypt the digital games (unique to each console) and change things in them like the region.

Now, say if two people had their keys and the files. In theory that means they have a way to share games between systems. These two aren't interested in unlocking Pandora's box with piracy and something like this might make them reconsider a public release, if one was planned at all. Hell, after they are done, they could let Nintendo know the hack they used so it is unable to be used further.

When and where will they reveal the exploitable game? Do any of the people working on this hack have a twitter?

Considering that one of them said that they probably won't be sharing the hack you shouldn't get your hopes up.

Maybe they'll release the exploit when they got 2000$.

so no chance that 3ds will play roms?
I'm sure that the 3DS will play roms sooner or later. But I think that you have to wait a bit.

The people with this exploit aren't asking for any donations, and the donations being asked for (by other people) are not for anything to do with the exploit, they are for decapping the 3DS, to learn better how it works etc. There has never been any sort of connection between the decapping fundraiser and any sort of release of any exploit.

The guys come here to troll us. They really hate GBATemp. Look at their chat logs in the spoilered OP. A majority of the people here are looking to pirate all their games or get homebrew to pirate games from other systems. The people who actually care about homebrew are on other forums and sites. For some reason GBATemp is passed around as the site where ROMs are to teenage kids, thus all the accounts with one post saying "Gibe R0mz P10x" or "How get fee games."

Holy crap! that's why it is expensive, i thought that it was some kind of expensive hardware to forcebrute the system to solve they decryption.
But knowing how th HW is made will help somehow to understanding their security ?

Sort of. Knowing the specifics of the chips will help in figuring out how the system works on the whole.

For example decapping allowed BYUU to add support to BSNES for the last few SNES games that weren't emulated properly. Once the custom chips for those games were decapped and the program ROMs extracted, the games could be emulated properly, finally (after years).

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
