1. get rid of _DS_MENU.SYS and replace _DS_MENU.DAT with the one in the Wood r4 folder

I don't have an R4 Yet, Nice guide btw.. But when u say..

"Data on MicroSD cards can often become corrupted, which could cause you to lose all your save files. For this reason it's a good idea to regularly backup your save files. You can do this by selecting option 1, itd will copy all your save files to My Documents\DS-Saves\[date]\[time]. It's also a good idea to this before renaming your saves."

On Section 8 I believe? (Saves section) What do u mean by option 1? Is option 1 on your computer or on the R4 Wood OS?

Hi R4Crypt is not working on my computer could you post the R4 dat in nds form so we can use R4 os a secondary just for the heck of it thanks

I've already added Wood v1.10 as an NDS http://www.mediafire.com/?ywtjzyidjdz should work, haven't tried it yet.

If you mean the official 1.18 as an NDS, I couldn't get it to work as an NDS. I've noticed when people dual boot R4 Official and YSMenu, they replace MoonShell in the R4 menu with YSMENU and not the other way round. They don't seem to be able to get the official working as an NDS either.

If it doesn't work, use the older one. http://www.themolehole.eclipse.co.uk/renamesav.zip extract to the root directory on your MicroSD card and then double click on renamesav. Unlike my other one, this one doesn't back them up before hand.

By the way, just to let you know, Premade NDS Version of Wood 1.10 works perfectly =D
I'm using it along Moonshell 2 and YSMenu (as in, Moonshell 2 packed with YSMenu is my main "OSMenu" and Wood the alternative one).
I don't mean to say Wood sucks or anything, I'm just testing some stuff out. And the Moonshell 2 User Interface is soooo gorgeous 8D

I've also tried to make an .NDS out of the official firmware 1.18 of the original R4, but no luck. It doesn't load. I tried out the unnoficial firmware 1.24 of R4li, and no luck too.

Hello,

I have been using a Official R4 Card for sometime using the original os
But i have recently had to change because of Pokemon HG & SS not working on them

I heard about Wood and came here.

Tutorial was excellent, really explained allot
But whenever I try to load it up, the loading screen just stays on there.
I have left it until the DS completely ran out of battery and it still wouldn't load.
I am not sure where I am going wrong.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for the great walk through. Very easy to follow.
I was able to set up R4 v. 1.10 as a secondary OS system on my card.
My card is the RV Upgrade Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS) running v. 3.12
Wood is successfully installed, and can load it and access all the settings.
However, it comes up with an error that it is unable to access data to save a game?
Did I miss something? I have tried older games that I know will save on my regular version, and newer ones like HPL, and still no luck?

Please if anyone could give me a step by step how to do this save thing it would be appreciated.

It's because it's an unsupported clone. Wood only works on original R4, or 1:1 clones as pictured in the first post.

Wood doesn't work on any upgrade, advanced, R4i, R4SDHC etc cart.

Sorry about that, I thought for sure mine was one of the clones that it supported.
That sucks though - anyone have any suggestions to upgrade my firmware to the more current games?

The only real alternative would be YSMenu...which may or may not work with your card anyways.

Step 12. GBA.
Wood R4 natively supports the EZFlash 3-in-1 slot-2 expansion for GBA compatibilty. No other slot-2 GBA devices are natively supported, this includes 3in1+, ewin, Super Card Slot 2 and M3 Perfect. If you have one of these and want support added to Wood R4, you will have to mail the device to the yellow.wood.goblin.

GBA frames should be supported, simply place them in a frames directory within __rpg.

i have a noob question though,so if its native support the expansion..i just copy the gba rom on my sd micro and just browse the file in wood r4 menu and pres A and play the game? can i still use gba exploader 0.58b? or what?

I don't have one, but I believe you can do either provided it's the normal 3in1. If you have a 3in1 plus you will have to use exploader, however someone has patched wood so it also use use the 3in1 plus natively http://gbatemp.net/t239083-wood-r4-3in1-patch

thx friend , ill give it a go , and yes i have the normal 3 in 1. maybe ill test both way,see which one is better( native and exploader)
