Excatly what's on my mind,too. They're using a "firmware.bin" thing. This might turn against them and make a new exploit pop up out of nowhere.

The firmware.bin is to update the sky firmware. It has nothing to do with the 3ds or an exploit.

This is Sky, not Gateway. It's not plausible to assume it'll work until someone tries it.

Why is that, exactly? Have you ever heard of a sky NOT working (besides new AP games)? Me neither.

Gateway/CFW is still superior. Has emuNAND, can backup roms, can backup sysNAND, play modified 3DS roms (like undubs, fan-translations, etc.), multi-rom menu, can install DLC and updates with devmenu/bbmenu, etc.

You sound a bit salty. I meant in terms of features and other things. The only thing Sky3DS has over Gateway/CFW is being able to work on firmwares 9.3+.

Again, the only thing Sky3DS has over Gateway is being able to work on firmwares 9.3+. Gateway/CFW is still better.

To be very honest, a Sky3DS almost costs the same as a 2DS. You're better off getting a new 2DS that's on an exploitable firmware and install CFW (RxTools, PastaCFW, cakeFW, etc.) on it. Then you can have all the benefits Sky3DS has and doesn't have.

Advantage I can see of the Sky, imo, is that you are sure it'll work so you don't have to worry about maybe accidentally updating your 3DS one day. Or someone else updating it in your place while you're not looking.
You can just keep your 3DS pretty much as legit as possible, except you also have a flashcard to play roms on it. And it guarantees you will always have Homebrew access with a CN rom

A new 2DS or Old3DS are more likely to have firmwares 9.2 or below. Pre-owned consoles are usually updated above 9.2. XP

Pre-owned consoles are usually updated already, yeah.
But if you can find someone selling pre-owned, you can ask them to check what firmware is on it. Mine was pre-owned on 6.2.0-10U bought early November. If someone bought a 3DS a long time ago and it hasn't seen much use, it's more likely to still be on a lower firmware. Especially if they never needed to do anything online and just wanted to play games they bought at the store.

Brand new 2DS should always be under 9.2, except the recent Yo-kai Watch bundle.
Brand new O3DS/XL should also always be under 9.2. There might be exceptions, so if there is, someone correct me. But they should all be under 9.2 because they stopped production before 9.2

Even the more recent black 3DSXL SM3DL bundle was under 9.2

if sky+ includes all fw from older sky, then region lock will still be a feature.

as soon as someone can do a test. i hope these can be cleared out.
- run modified rom? (need a way to play english patched mhx because hans still doesn't work)
- independent regionfree?
- compatibilty with homebrew = play .3dsx from sky+ or = can be used alongside homebrew, like as always?
- 3dsware (eshop only titles) support?
i need to confirm on this (especially 1st question) before suggesting this fc my friends (need mhx hunting buddies)
