I have a New style 2ds XL with an interesting problem...

The analog stick/circle pad is not working for UP or DOWN. Upon system start up, for some season the cursor goes haywire moving upwards, but will stop after tapping the directional pad. There is absolutely no response when moving it up or down during calibration. I replaced it with a Chinese aftermarket and still having the same issue. Any other recommendations on where to look? The system was recieved broken and will only start up with cfw software on memory card.

The signal line for up and down (Y dimension or whatever) is not connected properly
If you replaced the stick but still have the same problem then it may be a problem with your motherboard

That's my unfortunate fear is that this is in the motherboard. Do you know which line is for up and which is for down? I've got all the tools to attempt a repair, I just need some guidance on what I'm supposed to be probing to figure out where the interruption is within the motherboard.

Look for 3DS analog stick pinout in a search engine

So I finally got around to button testing the circle pad. The old pad did not move at all in increment. The replacement one will move 1 increment in either UP or DOWN after 3 seconds and will continue in that timing increment until letting go then slightly go back down to -10 and stop. All my other buttons responded effectively.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

When unplugging both circle pads and testing the function, the readings are haywire and erratic.

Found this. This might related to your circle pad, albeit differing with d-pad and o3DS(XL) models instead.
Due to little documentation on the n2DSXL motherboard's layout and Nintendo not labeling the components,
, there's not much hope finding and fixing the exact SMD/SMT component responsible for the broken circle pad behavior.

***

System Transfer your NNID & profile to another [ n3DS / n3DSXL / n2DSXL ], replace the n2DSXL motherboard, and then System Transfer the setup back.
-or-

Buy a [ replacement / refurbished / like-new ] n3DSXL or n2DSXL at:

Sorry for the long wait in reply! So after 8 logged hours of attempting to fix this issue to the full extent of my knowledge I finally gave up. I let my anger get the best of me and I threw it hard as I could towards the couch, bounced off and landed on the concrete.
.... the system works perfectly now, sustaining minor damage to the case.

I never will understand HOW this worked. I'm glad I don't fix electronics for a living. I guess when it doubt, always try blunt force trauma ‍.

Hi! I wanted to reply here because I had a similar problem. I downloaded 3DSident-GUI and tested my circle pad. Strange thing, however. The circle pad works fine in 3DSident-GUI, but on the actual console, the device has trouble detecting when I press up on the circle pad (pressing up still works but it typically doesn't detect it), even after a calibration. Any help? (In 3DSident-GUI, up on the circle pad goes up to a maximum of 151, and down on the circle pad goes down to a maximum of -154, although has a few problems when going up while going in a 360 degree motion. I also tested repeatedly pressing up and it worked fine, as well as holding up, but that doesn't seem to be the case on the system itself.)

Scratch my post, I think my circle pad just needed to be used a bit again because I haven't used it in a while. It seems to detect it 95% of the time and it only has a bit of trouble moving the circle pad in a 360-degree motion.
