Since mine absolutely sucks and doesn't support HD videos or my new monitor (well, it does, but not the highest resolutions) I'm trying to replace it with a newer, cheap PCI card. That's right, it has to be PCI. No PCI Express or anything. Also, I really don't want to spend too much. My range is $70-

I was thinking this:

lol

In my price range, I can use it since its PCI, and should be able to let me watch HD videos as well as support up to 1920x1080. What do you guys think?

you might want to look at something at least 128bit

the pickings are slim
my last card was a pci 9250, it was pretty decent as far as pci cards go

You could look at something like the HD2400 (pro) which is on PCI (and performs on par 3D, and better in video due to UVD compared to your 8400) and pretty decent, or maybe this:
8500GT
Which IS better then the 8400 you selected. Still quite underpowered though but the best in your price region and PCI requirements (at least in the NVIDIA camp).

Scorpei beat me too it, a 8500 GT is a good choice, it also runs some games fairly well, fairly as in low everything

Hm... yeah, the 8500 is what my friend recommended me, but with shipping, recycling fees, and tax, it comes down to like 85ish dollars... that's pretty expesnvie for me.

PS: Do you guys think the video card I listed at the top could handle the GC emulator Dolphin? What about the 8500?

The 8500 is (roughly 7600 performance), IMHO, worth the extra cash over the 8400 (roughly 7300 performance). Getting something for the same price on PCI-E or AGP would have been nice though

. You could look for something second hand?

As for dolphin, not a clue, don't know if they use your graphics card a lot (doubt it) or if the CPU is the main factor (probably). If you really want I could try it on my 9300M G (core 2 duo T5750) which is the closest I have to such hardware, unless you are willing to wait till next wensday: my server should be built then which is composed out of:
AMD athlon 64 3200+ (newcastle, socket 754)
ATI HD2400 pro AGP
So the processor there isn't all that great and will probably be the limiting factor.

Just checked for you on my laptop (9300M G). CPU use is pretty high ('80%-100%') but the vid card is used too. I get (with audio turned off, not working anyway with Zelda the windwaker) roughly 20-25 fps. Playable but not super. Audio is not working with Jungle beat either, fps and cpu use are roughly similar too.

I think you're better of buying a genuine gamecube (you can even emulate lots of things on there anyway)

@Xdqwerty No you heard wrong, and don't believe till you experience yourself. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Yes it had issues early on, esp with older hardware like the xbox1, but it is awesome, esp now being 4k on Series S/X or PS5

@BigOnYa, Then i think people were talking about fallout 76
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    that one was buggy too
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, I may probably download fallout 3 or new vegas on my ps3
