(Sorry if my questions have already been answered in another post, if so I appreciate that you redirected me to that post)

As the title says, my 128GB Kingston SDcard just died (I presume due to overheating) and now I have doubts about what I should do next. I also accept recommendations on which brand should I buy the new one.

While ordering a new one I wanted to make sure what steps I should follow, I understand that I can do a data transfer when I have the new one but I'm not really sure how to do it if the old one is unusable (My PC cannot read it and asked me to format it, I have not done it yet). My biggest concern right now is whether I will be able to keep my save files and if I have to do anything specific to back them up. I really appreciate the help.

This is the part where I always get lost, is there a way to identify if my saves are in sysnand or emunand?

Also I tried to use lockpick to get the keys but I always get an error to get the file on the sdcard, it can't seem to modify its contents.

If you put the sd card in your computer do you get one or two extra drive letters? If you get two it would indicate that you have a partition based emummc and then the saves are probably on there. Windows can't read that partition but nxnandmanager can, provided that it is not damaged. You will need the keys from your Switch so you have to use Lockpick with another SD card and copy prod.keys to your computer

Right, it's just one letter so I assume there is no partition, thanks for clarifying that for me. Right now I'm having problems getting the keys with lockpick but I hadn't thought about using another sdcard, thanks for the idea.

I will try that and hope to have good results, thanks again.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:

still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
