Hello,

I am feeling quite scared for well over a year now.

My interest here is twofold.

1. Please share your most soul crushing experience you had with a game

2. What game is in your opinion the most fatalist, dread inducing work of fiction you know.

For me the most soul crushing experiences where the endless clicking and collecting android games. Its an endless sickle of hopelessness.

The most fatalist and dread inducing is Max Payne 1&2

1.this got mentioned the other day in a board game forum of all places. It's the video game ad-venture capitalist. It goes like this:
0. You have one apple
1.click to sell an apple and buy two new ones with that money
2.repeat 1 until you've got enough to hire a manager who automatically sells and buys apples
3.repeat 2 until you can hire a director who automatically hires managers.
4...you get the picture

So the game is almost literally nothing but watching numbers go up (more so: faster and faster) , but it's so compelling and addicting it's scary. I really had to restrain myself, especially when i found out the buying and hiring continues after you close the game

2. That had to be"the static speaks my name", a roughly fifteen minute free game(on Steam). It's the lead up for a suicide.
Runner up is 'song of Saya', a visual novel about a strange romantic relationship. It's gory as fuck and some brutal scenes as well(which are more suggested than shown, which... Really increases the dread of your fantasy isn't dead), but the real horror is in how the car crash warped the protagonist's perception of the world: he KNOWS the world is all as it was, but what he perceives is some sort of nightmare slaughterhouse, inhabited by monsters(with one exception... But that makes it even worse).

Oh, and most recent one: inmost. It's pretty convoluted in story telling, but has some genuine scary moments in it

So it at least has an end.

No, no he got it twisted, it is the other way around, the car crash seems to have fixed him.

If you cant count the plotlines on one finger its to complicated for me.

Dark Souls (1) when you have to kill Sif. Particularly if you do the DLC first that has you meet him as a puppy.

"In the cutscene, Sif will recognize the player as they approach and let out a whimper. The protagonist reaches out to pet the wolf, but Sif pulls away and howls mournfully before sadly picking up Artorias' greatsword. The fight will continue as normal after this point."

Klonoa 1 and 2. I won't say more as I would be spoiling the games then.
Also suppose Undertale... usually when a game gives me the "feels", welp, it's kinda soul crushing to me...?

If you mean more in a nihilistic way... Well, Iron Lung recently came out. You're basically in a dying universe, so, more fucked up than that...
