Metal Gear Survive - Open Beta starts today

download.jpeg

Remember that weird Metal Gear game that everyone decided to instantly hate because Hideo Kojima left Konami?[prebreak]1[/prebreak]
Well it's out next month, with a 15-20 hour campaign and seamless single/multiplayer action.
It also has every gamer's favourite thing; a microtransaction store!

Today you can try the open beta on PS4 and Xbox One. I'm downloading the 8GB file as we speak and will report back on the title later today.

The game also will require an always-online internet connection to play, even the single player mode, which I find odd. The gameplay itself looks very...unfinished and wonky, just not right at all, but the concept itself isn't half bad.

Of course, this is also modern-day Konami, and unless people are quick to forget, I can't see this doing well, unless the gameplay is stellar. I suppose I'll have to check it out for fun.

looks interesting, just hope they havent gone too overboard with the microtransaction system, but given the "always online" requirement for single player it seems very much like they are determined to make sure nobody gets a free pass by cheating/glitchibg resources.

I can understand people being upset with them using the mgs name, but I see it as the same as the wanna be cod games made under the resident evil banner.....its just a name and it's not really going to screw things up more than the average konami move

A zombie Metal Gear game? Reall Konami?
They should just make this into a battle royale game. Heck, it'll be even better with map making system and those crafting system like Fortnite. It's all in there.
This way they'll just ride in the popularity of that genre. :rofl2:

random survival game with the name Metal Gear just to sell
great opinion 2018

Well is not the first time this have happen in the gaming world (im looking at you SEGA).

I personaly never ask for this but im gonna give it a try. Just to see how bad/good can be. Find very strange that even for single player you need online connection.

Probably the same always-online single player mode as MGSV TPP. Playable offline but with connection required for a bunch of things (online weapon research, online base ressources, etc etc)

For what I've seen so, maybe it will be a good zombie game, in the base/tower defense kind.
I wont lie, with the sneaking ability of MSG, there is a way to make a great zombie game; one with deadly horde, the kind you have to hide from, the kind of "ho shit there are zombies".
Adding in a wound/heal system similar with MGSIII's one,... nice

But the Metal gear title have nothing to do on it... Slapped on it to "boost" sell.

So basically it’s a mobile game masked as a console game, gotcha.

the question now is, why are they selling this to us, with the games business model it could easily be a f2p and nothing would change besides maybe adding a stamina bar

We can say that but is always online a dealbreaker anymore? I mean some of the biggest games in the world are always online, Fortnite, Destiny 2 etc. It's just the type of game it is.
Even MGSV needed an online connection to work 'properly'.

The microtransactions suck, sure, but if no one ever bought them in MGSV then they probably wouldn't be in this game.

they need to have a strong line up on the launch titles too. I think they should move metroid prime 4 to the next console because by now it has been quite a while and there's no release date scheduled yet

well as far as metroid prime 4 is concerned, the next system probably is similar enough to the current gen they can probably easily just slap it onto a next gen cart and call it good :P
