I don't know, I guess im not up to date until now :[
I have been using Ubuntu for a year, just switched a few days ago, and finally got the chance to update today
Those updates won't take you to 1703. On the Windows Update screen, there should be an option to manually update to the Creators Update. It was protected from the WannaCry vulnerabilities before any security patches were rolled out.

Hmm, I'm not seeing it.

Just checked my Windows VM, it is this one?

That's the one for Windows 7. It has all of the relevant fixes. (MS started doing roll-ups for 7 and 8.1 some months ago; you can't get the individual patches anymore.)

There are also "security only" versions if you don't want the telemetry stuff/"quality of life improvements" they started adding to the Windows 7 rollups a while back, but they're less convenient since they don't come through Windows update and need to be manually downloaded, but they are still rollups (there's one for security-only for Windows 7 and one for Internet Explorer 11).

I have no idea why this thing hates me. The first time it was done, it told me to restart, but since I was going to sleep I shut it down instead of restarting. The day after, it booted up normally (usually the update set up part should show up here). I loaded up the assistant again, and it said the computer was out of date (the same as yestarday), so I let it do it again (the update wasn't cached apparently so I had to download again), then this happened:

My Windows 7 copy is unable to update using Windows Update for unknown reason.
I'll try to apply it by myself since windows is being a dick to me lately.

If I understood the article on an IT News page correct this update is NOT available for Windows 10 as the hole is not there !
So this is just a security update for < W10 and they only did it to prevent something like wannacry, as there are way to much people who still have not upgraded.

There are still idiots out there with Windows XP systems connected to the internet -.-V these guys should get sued as these systems help criminals with their work as they are just not really secure and can be abused rather easy.

I use my save copy of windows 10 since first beta of it an "gradually" updated without clean install, my comp still rock hard to play and other work :)
Also I plan to reinstall once I buy an SSD but there that another thing :P
About this update seem it did installed no update in windows update even after several refresh ^^

I'm an idiot? Atleast it's not a fucking Windows 95 DansGame

I'm not getting rid of it because one internet article tells me that i'm an idiot for using it.
[Using it on my 3rd laptop so fite me]
Just get linux on it

This isn't some "replace all ur windows to linux" thing, I (and other people) find older systems run much better with linux installed, as linux can be much more resource lighter. Just some food for thought, as it is probably safer then WinXP ;)

I technically could but i have too much stuff on that laptop. It's overfilled with info, dummies and unedited videos and family photos.
So, that's why i'm sticking with XP.

If you don't have a backup, you have two problems.

I highly recommend getting an external HDD and backing up everything ASAP.

  1. Backup all of your files, whether it's to an external drive and/or to the cloud.
  2. If your computer meets the system requirements and can handle it, update it to Windows 10. You can get a free license if you do it right.
  3. If your computer can't handle Windows 10, you could update to Windows 7, but it only has <3 years before it too loses support. You could also install a Linux build.
