I think Apple know that I hate their products, so they're giving me a hard time

So, I wanted to reset a password on a Mac Book with the OSX installation CD. I went to the utilitary, changed the password of the user, then on reboot, I was unable to log on with that user. I checked, the user's files are still here, the folder (/users/UserName) is still here, but it's npt recognized as a user...

why did you use the installation disk?
you can reset passwords from the system preferences.

anyway, are you sure the files are still in there? did you look inside the username folders.

I used it because I needed the password to modify the system preferences. But now it's okay, I reinstalled the system, then used the root account tocheck everything. I don't know why, the user has been deleted but the files were still there. So I created a new user and changed his name, uid, home folder with the old one
