Hi all, just wanted to confirm that Luma v13.02 is compatible with the most recent firmware before I upgrade (primarily because Pokemon Bank requires the latest firmware) from my current sys 11.16.0-49U and Luma v11.0, or if there’s any reason to hold out for a bit / backup just in case. Lastly, wanted to confirm safest update order would be to install latest Luma first, then system firmware. Thanks so much for any info!

You can update luma. But 11.0 is good "enough" to work on the latest firmware version. I doubt that Nintendo will release a firmware version in the future that breaks luma. Very unlikely. But when you want to update luma...do it.

Always the custom firmware first (doesn't matter on which console because the procedure is always the same), then your system firmware. If you do it the other way around, it may happen that your console no longer boots properly.

I just updated to the latest version, now my Amenome themes are gone. Not a huge deal at all but has anyone else encountered this?

Don't those need a custom version of Luma that usually releases later? Usually it has a different icon on the homebrew store.

Hey, I was doing a small mod for a game for personal use, and tried to use LayeredFS for making it quick and easy to use, but as I expected, it creates these small stops whenever data has to load (for example an enemy appearing on the area), I've found out that Luma can also do BPS patches, but here's the question:

Does it have any advantage to LayeredFS? Is it faster?

You should add a loading screen before each level of the game instead of trying to load in real time.

That has nothing to do with what I asked. Starting with that I am not making a game but modding an existing one, the game is already structured.

There's no stutter when enemies spawn normally, but when using LayeredFS it's there, because it has to read data about them when they appear.

I just wanted to know if is any performance difference between bps patch loading and layeredFS.

LayeredFS can be good for things that require low amounts of loading, usually done in loading screens (like the music mod for Star Fox 64 3D), but for constant loading it causes a lot of stutter (like the voices mod for also Star Fox 64 3D).

It doesn't matter anymore as I rebuilt the game with the changes and works fine, but if anyone knows if there is any difference it'd be great.

modding an existing one

Certain 3DS Kart Racing fan game is just a mod of Mario Kart 7, but still has loading screens to load all the modifications.

You just can't expect the 3DS to be fast enough to load the changes in the fly, the hardware is just not powerful enough.

Please bring your ignorance elsewhere.
3DS CFW used to come with actual risks and complicated setups, such as getting your own firmware files from your 3DS (or downloading them) coupled with many features being removable and optional. Luma3DS is literally just drop the boot.firm into the root of the SD card, everything major works out of the box. Everything risky is completely hidden away from the average user, everything like GBA/TWI patches are built directly into the launcher and not something anyone can easily remove. Literally everything that could possibly go wrong for a noob is covered and protected. This is a noob-proof and noob-friendly CFW, that's not a debatable statement.
