There wasn't any satire or humor on that page, PETA were intent on ruining mario's image by showing him with a raccoon's head and him wearing a dead body. Parody always involve some kind of humor, but never tries to undermine something dead on. PETA wanted people to react in some way, but they didn't want you to laugh at him doing such a "wretched" thing. Personally though, I think PETA gets aways with it.
