Hello!

I am building my PC, and I am going to put a wireless network adapter onto the PCI Express port. I am afraid that it will run into the fan of my graphics card (It's pretty big). I have no cable port in my room, so I can't connect the modem. So I am wondering...

Is there some kind of technology that will connect to the internet modem, then I can plug in an ethernet cable into it and into my PC to get internet? Like an internet receiver of some sort?

Thanks!

For the powerline adapter, I get how it works. One sends internet to the other, then to the pc through an ethernet cable, but where would the one that connects to the modem go? It plugs into the wall? Do I need to set the internet up?

Into a plug socket.

One goes in a socket near the pc and the other goes in a socket near the modem/router. Then just ethernet cable from one to to pc and ethernet cable from the other to the modem/router.

Some powerline adapters do more than just one to one connections. My friend has one that has 3 Ethernet ports and WiFi-N in his room so he can extend his network to the other side of the house. This way his sister and his mom can use wifi and he can plug in his PC, PS4 and WiiU and they all receive internet whilst his internet router is at the other end of the house.

Cool! Crazy how advanced technology has gotten. >.>

The technology has been around for a long time ... maybe 15+ years? It seems ever 5 years or so they give it a speed boost too. You have to pay a lot for more advanced models however.

Some prefer WiFi repeaters/extenders, or just routing a single Ethernet cable through the house and putting another router at each end to extend the WiFi coverage. I've tried a mix of all of them at various times and now I'm happy with two routers for two floors and an Ethernet cable connecting them.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@K3Nv2, gonna make a jumping sprite
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
You can add platform character behavior to any sprite, just disable the default controls for it, and make it jump/move in your code. The rectangle behavior is cool too for enemies.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @BigOnYa, how is it cool?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, and i meant jumping sprite for the player
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
It makes it move around constantly in different directions, like a enemy moving back n forth from one side to other
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, and i dont think the rectangular movement behavior works for platform games
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea it does. And you can add platform character behavior to your own charcter, and it will have move and jump already setup for you, space bar is jump, arrows move
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, i already added the platform character behaviour to the player since i started doing this
