Gaming Intel Core i7 920 or Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550?

So my friend is planning on getting some computer with that processor, and then I said my Q9550 beats his i7 920. so which one is better...? I know that the Q9550 is faster by .17GHz. But iunno the difference between this...

Q9550
- 12MB L2 Cache

i7 920
- 8MB L3 Cache

Difference? Sockets are also different, but I like the common LGA775.
