If I fill up the Xbox One's drive so it can't be updated, what will happen and can it bypass the update?

Read the question. If you connect the drive to a PC beforehand, use a tool to convert it. However I assume the console may also detect the spam files and delete them?

It has a partition only for system updates, which gets cleared during boot.
Similar to PS4/5.
So if you fill the drive with other stuff, surely when the system partition gets cleared the next update is larger?

If the drive is 500GB, the system update partion is 5GB, is that partion filled with pointless stuff?

The partition is filled with nothing as long as there is no update available.
The space is always reserved for an update.
If you fill it with gargabe or alter it in any way, the Xbox will either format it during boot or not boot at all until a factory reset is done.
