i just got a new dsi xl and i was told that my r4 upgrade card would work in it but when i insert it it just says "error etc please check dsi manual"
it works perfectly in my old 1 generation fat ds (not ds light) i was hoping it would work as i have LOADS of games on it
can some one tell me how to get it working in the dsi xl? does it need a new firmware? my dsi is a uk model
the R4 card is an r4i sdhc

That won't help. The card isn't updated for DSi system menu 1.4, and probably will never be. Get an Acekard 2i if you want a flashcart for your new XL.

So, and R4i won't work on a current DSi? That's funny, and sad.

Nope, it has the have the 1.4 bubble on the sticker for it to be compatible. I can also recommend the AK2i, but be sure to use AKAIO. The stock firmware for AK2i is total crap!

Older R4i's won't work. Nintendo attempted to block all flashcarts with their 1.4 update, and all the flashcarts (like R4 clones) that weren't able to be updated were left in the dust.

Do NOT recommend an R4 clone. They're mostly crap. 95% of the people on this forum (me included) will recommend an Acekard 2i for best game compatibility and really fast fixes.

Just be wary of the acekard 2i contact problem. mainly solved by the paper or card trick

I don't have the contact problem, but I have a broken spring in the sd slot.. Man this card is only a couple weeks old.

Well an alternative would be buying R4i Gold and using Wood R4 on it. I know it works on my R4i Gold.

Yes it would work but you should still buy an acekard 2i
i got my acekard from there (but the german version of the site) and it works
or buy qn r4i gold and get 42% off, just type gold42s at checkout

the card is an R4I revolution v1.12b...anyone know if it will work with an update?

It's an R4 clone. Don't buy anything with "R4" on it or you'll just end up back here trying to figure out how to resolve issues for your particular clone while wading through the solutions for other clone carts. It's not worth your cash or trouble, and it saves the GBAtemp community the hassle of fixing your problems for you if you just buy a reliable cart, like an Acekard 2i. The DSi XL has the same firmware as the regular DSi. If a box is advertising that it works on a DSi XL, they're trying to take advantage of your ignorance about DSi firmwares, because any cart that works on DSi 1.4 will also work on a DSi XL. Do some more reading, and avoid anything that says "R4" at all costs.
