Hi,

My PS3 arrived a couple of days ago, and now I'm trying to stream media from my pc through my PS3 so I can watch the media on a big screen rather than a small monitor. However, I am using Tversity without success. I have the settings correctly set up, but my PS3 is failing to detect the media server.

I am uising a wireless connection and I know this is unreliable really, but I can't find my network cables, so I'm stuck with wirelss.

If someone could help guide me through the steps on getting this working, I would be most grateful. I have read the two tutorials for the PS3 on the Tversity website, but I'm stuck at getting my PS3 to even detect the media server.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: I now have Tversity almost working. I can launch files but the result is the following error message: "the folder could not be accessed. the content may have been deleted from the media server"

Anyone know how to resolve that?

Cheers

I don't know about TVersity, i've looked into it when i got my PS3 this summer but i opted for the built in media server in Vista Windows media player 11. I actually had to do 3 click on the PC, searched for a media server on PS3 (appeared almost instantly) and it works wonder since then.

I stream wirelessly and it works great, i can fast forward at 120 x without a hitch on standard resolution Xvid- Divx, WMV, Mp4, haven't tried HD files since i have an SD TV. I watch everything with that now.

Also, some nice thing to know if you like subtitles (like me) is that PS3 supports them. I thought it didnt't at first but you have to embed em in the avi file for it to work. Here's a nice prog for that:

No reencode needed, just the time to rewrite the files on disk.

Once in a while i'll encounter a unsupported codec (TVsersity reencode those on the fly, thats the one major advantage of Tversity).

A GPL streaming media server project that currently streams in MP3 format, with plans to add support for video and Vorbis formats. Has ports for pretty much...

Sounds like the connection is unstable. Make sure you position your PS3 as close to your wireless router as possible, and check to see if the signal is a good, strong 90 - 100%. Streaming stuff is really heavy on bandwidth, especially for video files. You can check signal strength under System Settings or something. Look around.

The best, most sure-fire way would be through a direct connection though. Just buy the cable, it can't be too expensive.
