Is there anything unique in a CIA file that Nintendo would be able to see everyone playing that pirated version of and just ban them again anyways? Or are CIA installs untraceable?
(Though I generated my own CIA from the .3ds version using a xordpad from my 3DS, if that changes things at all..)

Yes you can - Someone replaced it and boom everythings unbanned (As its a new sysnand altogether)

If this post gets 9999 likes Nintendo will unban everyone.
It sounded like you had to use a Moboard that was 10.7 or lower, something that you could eventually roll back and then reinstall all the goods.

Man just think, this could have all been avoided with a little bit more discretion when it comes to testing the waters.

You'll be fine, now. What was screwing people was that the update version on the leaked CIA versions was 0, which was wrong. This is what got people banned from Nintendo's servers, because the server detected an impossible update.

And that is why people are annoyed by the mass of retarded 12 year olds that inhabit this site.

Yes, you definitely can. The version is irrelevant. I tested it myself and you will not get banned.
Is it really a big deal to get an untampered game? Just because you're not banned now doesn't mean they won't ban you later. Even if it takes you 6+ hours to get it, it's better than shelling out for a new 3DS because the unban methods aren't foolproof.

Ahh ok, so then the current version out now on e-shop is now update version 0, making it safe to play? Or do we have to update first.

Don't listen to him, he doesn't know what he's talking about. first off there was no update to create conflict. and if there was, it wouldn't conflict because any version higher then 0 would install. not to mention a large number of people played the leak and didn't get banned. what flagged was the fact that they played a game online before the release date. the cartridge version are 0 anyway.

How do you know? Do you really think Nintendo would tell you how they found pirated copies?
I played it too. didn't get banned. it was using online features for a game prior to release date. it was even in my "currently playing" in my friends tab.

Those weren't updates, they were the actual version numbers for the legit eShop version. IF you got an update while using the .CIA before it was because the eShop wanted to "repair" the console because it was a digital version of the cartridge and not the official eShop one. The version numbers have nothing to do with anything, and there were absolutely no updates to the games cart, digital or otherwise.

Because it literally is not true.
They have no way of knowing whether people have paid for their copies or not. People just gave themselves away by going online. They literally gave Nintendo a free indicator that they did not pay for the game.
Sure, some innocent got in it sadly but most of the people were pirates. It was a perfect way to terminate their 3ds while minimizing the damage.

Quick question: If I have a banned 3ds, will I still be able to battle/trade with a friend who has a non-cfw 3ds via local/infrared? If so, is there any chance that they can be banned or suffer any repercussions due to playing with me? Thanks :)

Like the 6th time I had to reboot this router trying to get PPPoE active
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Ken, your hamster inside it is hungry. Can't you turn POE on/off in your WiFi settings page? Or is it not staying on?

@BigOnYa, Well, in that thread they say it's pretty much safe to manage save files back and forth to consoles as long as you don't go online with cheats activated or with a pirate game.
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
I own every of my games legit with their own cartridges
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
also, I'm not planning to use any cheats, etc, just continue the normal gameplay on the emulator
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It only gives a internet settings option then it spazes out

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
@ATEMVEGETA if you use save from other switch you may be ok, but using a save from emulator to switch will prob get you banned
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Under ipv4/6
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
The save file will be created and started normally on the Switch's OFW with a legit game. Then that save file will be transfered to the emulator and continue the gameplay there. Then send it back to the console.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I feel like I need to touch @Sicklyboy rack to make it work at this point
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
The save file(s) would never be created first in an emulator
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
Do you think continuing the story on the emulator would flag the save file as illegal? (Again no cheats, etc will take place, only normal story of the game progress)
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But still using the save on a emulator, then back to switch is shady

  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
Yea, that's the only thing I want to clarify actually. If someone has tried it with no problems.

  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
If using the save on the emulator flags the save file. :/
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
Again, "using" I mean normal gameplay not modify it with other means like pokehex, etc
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
@BigOnYa, Can you help me clarify this thing somehow? Do you know someone that may know or have tried it?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Just play it on the emulation at home and portable use the normal save, I wouldn't risk anything if online is important to you
