If you tried this on your 3DS, did it work?

I'm glad it worked for you! Enjoy your CFW!
Thanks! I actually use a gateway card, but CFW is something I am going to look into sometime. I usually go with whatever option is the least risk (emunand is great :) )

Time to transfer stuff from my half broken 3ds then sell it for a few quid on ebay

I've actually got a question about frankenware.

I'm on O3DS with 9.0 sysnand (though I've used 9.2 .cia package from that certain website, it displays 9.0 oddly),
but that isn't the issue at hand; just a little background.

I was wondering if it's possible to revive the mset exploit on 9.0?

I'm presently using coldboot of RXtools on menuhax.
(emunand was previously set up using gateway when I was on 4.5 FW.

I've only been able to use browserhax successfully once, but luckily, that was the one time I managed to install menuhax.
but I'll like to have a backup option.

I typically know what I'm doing,
but this is probably the most insane thing I've being thinking of.

The next to highest insane thing I've done previously was use BBM to install bluecardtimewarp on sysnand, before sysupdater was even released.
(whatever I do, I don't like messing with my sysnand)

On N3DS you can, yes. That's how Gateway and a few other CFWs like ReiNAND had easier booting for a while, before MenuHax came out (you downgraded the 9.x MSET to 4.x). I don't think MSET payloads were ever released for downgraded MSET 9.x on O3DS though.

I was thinking, like perhap it's a specific .cia(s) to install from the older version firmwares.

If you think about it, N3DS was never even on such a low firmware, so the MSET payload is probably taken from the above mentioned method

[NOOB QUESTION, please answer though]
I've missed out with the 3DS scene for a day or two so I was wondering; does this give a higher success downgrade rate?

This is if you already attempted to downgrade and it failed midway through. It can't be used if you haven't attempted a downgrade yet.

I assume this is for people who have softbrick their 3ds?

Not necessisarily soft bricked, but on what someone dubbed as Frankenfirmware. Its a situation where your 3DS will boot but will not launch system settings and the internet browser most of the time. Since we can still boot cartridges, we use OoT or Cubic Ninja to access the homebrew launcher and finish the downgrade.

Very interesting but thanks for the info. :)

Since I am indeed missing some titles how would I go about installing the missing cia's if they don't come in the package? I can run CFW fine but I know I am missing some cias. Based off the log I posted.

I downgraded to 9.2 from 9.9 on my n3DS XL and I encountered the 'An error has occurred etc'. I rebooted and it shows 9.2 in the System Settings and everything else seems to work OK. How do I know if I have Frankenfirmware or not?

You probably won't know until you come across something this is broken. My 3DS didn't boot after I had the error, one I removed the SD card it would boot, but was very unstable and things like settings wouldn't open. I think there is something that can check what update cias you have installed, but I can't recall it off the top of my head.

Well at the moment I'm trying to load things from HBL and it just goes back to the HBL main menu.

EDIT: When loading minipasta this happens, help please.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
