Hello all,

I got a couple of Gameboy Micros but they have a discernible smokey cigarette smell. I have taken off the faceplates and cleaned the front. They still smell a bit.

Does anyone know a way to get rid of the smell? Will it go away in time?

Thank you kindly

Getting rid of the cigarette smell from electronics can be an absolute nightmare depending on how bad it is to begin with. I've personally had the best experience of stripping the item down completely and cleaning it with 99% isopropanol

Thanks for the response.
I have some isopropanol. Do you clean the motherboard as well as the case parts?
If you clean the motherboard, do you wipe it down with a cloth wet with the alcohol? I have not done it before and want to check in case I break it by doing the wrong thing.

Thank you kindly

Just use some isopropyl and a clean soft toothbrush, give it a clean being gentle enough that you’re not smashing components and then let it dry naturally as the alcohol will evaporate

Sorry for the lateness of this reply today has been one of those days where i have been doing 8 things at once and thinking about a million other things

but as exactly as @clnsgne says - don't use anything below 80% Iso the higher the better in all honesty and the last time it will take to dry out. I really do recommend 99% with an a handful Molecular Sieves in the bottle to keep as much water out as possible ( This is probably just over kill in all honesty but i've been doing it for years) and just remember to be careful with the screen and ribbon cable !

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.
