There seems to be some confusion over whether it is a points card like the gold editions of resident evil or an actual piece of flash memory but either way they are being flogged at more or less exact prices (no 200 spare points or something) rather than those boxes with some points cards inside (as per the GTA DLC before it came on the double pack).
Better yet they count as any other stock on the shelf and you can trade for them although being able to trade content back in is not going to happen.

An interesting move in my opinion and not necessarily a bad one.

If it's on flash memory, that's fantastic, for the people without internet access on their consoles. Even if it isn't, it's good for people who want ONE specific DLC or whatever, rather than having to buy a whole points card for just one thing.

EDIT: I'd reckon it probably is just a code on a card tbh...

i would love if such service started here, its quite annyong for people who have limited and low bandwidth connections, were taking some 30-60 kb/s download with only 3-5GB quota a month depending on your package.

also a nice plus for the "offliners" - to be honest even if things were priced at some 5$ extra i wouldnt personally mind.

I see prepaid DLC cards in GameStop all the time. This is interesting. It seems it is most definitely on memory cards are USB drives. I think this may present a problem in terms of piracy though. Games like Worms that were given free on a MU are able to run off another MU without any license.

ok just asked a mate who works for GAME in the UK
smile.gif

they are currently trialling TOP UP VOUCHERS ... pretty much like mobile top up vouchers instead of getting a scratch off card in a dvd/cd type cased box as you do now for your points it will just be on a till type printed receipt with a view to saving the environment !? or save plastic case use they are also selling addon cards for games DANCE CENTRAL for extra tracks and FORZA for extra cars

so now you know..... they are trialling in just 4 stores at present to see how it goes then possibly rolling it out to ALL stores and maby for more specific games

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
