My all time favourite game on the DS is New Super Mario Bros. I've played it through so many times.
Even though it's so good I can't find any similar games...

Tips please...?

Well, as for platformers, there really isn't anything quite like Mario. But you could try The Legendary Starfy, N+ or something Kirby.

Giana Sisters DS is the next best thing. One of the rare instances where a remake is better than the original.

Get Braid. It's an absolutely fantastic game with an interesting twist and borrows heavily from Mario gameplay with a time element. It's available on PC, 360 and I believe PS3.

I've got that on, but didn't really like it... Too cute or something, and too "slow".

Maybe Yoshi's island? It's pretty close in terms of gameplay.

Super Wario Land
Super Wario Land 2
Super Wario Land 3
Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko
Commander Keen
Duke Nukem (yes, he was originally a platform game)

nesDS and Super Mario Bros.3. If you do get that, PM for the IPS Patch to unlock the 15lost levels.

Or super mario advance 4 if you have a slot 2 loader for the ds or super mario allstars with snesds if you don't

I wouldn't call it similar, but N+ is one sweet platformer. One of the DS titles that surprised me the most in terms of how much fun I had with it.
