E3 to return to an in-person show next year, gives dates for 2023 event

Schedule_web.jpg

The state of video gaming's biggest annual trade show has been up in the air for the last few years. In 2020, 2021, and 2022, E3 had been canceled due to the COVID pandemic. This year, the ESA was due to make an all-digital E3 event, but that also ended up being canceled. Following all this, the ESA decided to put ReedPop--the organizers of events like PAX, EGX, and New York Comic Con--in charge of putting together E3 2023.

We'll be able to expect E3's return during the traditional June timeframe, with the official dates being given through Gamesindustry.biz, courtesy of a briefing with the ESA. E3 2023 will take place from June 13-16th. In recent years, E3 had allowed non-media to also partake in the trade show, though things will function a little differently next year; the first two days will be for industry and media only, while the third day will see consumers allowed in alongside them, and the fourth and final day will restrict business and media and only allow in fans/consumers.

The ESA has three core objectives in order to make E3 2023 more manageable for everyone:
  • Make a better business event where it's easier to connect, meet and conduct interviews
  • Make a better consumer experience where there are things for fans to actually do
  • Partner, support and be friends with everyone announcing games in and around E3, irrespective of whether they're actually in the convention center
Will you be looking forward to the return of E3 in 2023, or have the various announcement events throughout the Summer these past three years been interesting enough for you?

why are they even bothering? they have been plenty of trailers and announcements this year WITHOUT THEM and the game companies have done just fine with their mini directs and other video trailers. the digital and streaming platform has evolved enough that we really don't need e3 anymore.

Uuh, there's still like 9 months, so they could cancel it again at any point within this time frame, so what's point of announcing this now?

Nintendo has Nintendo Direct
Sony has State of Play

What's the point?

Physical events are going to be replaced with virtual ones.

PSVR2 will stream E3 to your head in 3D.

E3 is an outdated concept that needs to die. We are not living in the stone ages anymore.

Trying to build up excitement, I guess, but E3 has disappointed me one too many times. 😞

Like WG481 said, it needs to be community centered, not what game journalists will think or say (I honestly don't give a shit about their opinion anymore).

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
