Crash Bandicoot 4 on PC requires a constant internet connection, despite having no online features

noload.jpeg

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time has finally come to PC, about five months after its initial release on consoles last October. Unfortunately, the PC version is exclusive to Battle.net and will require players to stay online at all times, despite the game not having any online functionality of any kind. As noted by Twitter user @RibShark and confirmed by the r/pcgaming subreddit, if a player attempts to boot the game without being able to log in to Battle.net, it will close and force you to try again. Of course, players aren't only prevented from logging in to Battle.net if their own connection is down; on the release day for Crash Bandicoot 4, Battle.net servers were down for two full hours, preventing players from playing the game they just purchased.

Always online requirements are often implemented as a form of DRM to prevent piracy. It doesn't appear to have helped in this case, however, as, according to Crackwatch.com, Crash Bandicoot 4 was cracked only a day after release. (We should also take this moment to remind readers that GBAtemp does not support or condone piracy, and any requests for or links to pirated content will be deleted and result in disciplinary action from the moderation team.)

That's what nintendo does with all it's android games to prevent modding the games.

Since it's on PC it won't take much to find an "Offline Mod" in the wild for this game anyway

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

And the protection was cracked in less that a day.
Probably the hacker just deleted the file called "constant internet" lol

I think one of the most annoying protections is in Simon 3D that not only requires a game CD but doesn't even work on all CD rom readers.

StarForce, from what I hear; that pile of garbage could damage CD drives, was later (correctly) classified as malware by Microsoft, and could now crash Win10 computers if forced to execute.
Never had any experience with it myself, thankfully, but whew. That must've stunk real bad, and there's probably a whole lotta games that never had it removed by the devs...

Saw this available for free download somewhere, wonder if they removed the mandatory online. Ended up playing the Xbox one version I got for Xmas, thinking to download the pc version to compare graphical quality, if I'm better off playing games on pc or Xbox etc

Yeah, and uh, hmm. I won't get into details, but there was a file I tried to install, but it was hanging at the installation process at around what, 90% and wouldn't go any further. Wished
there was a crack one could just drag and drop without using a shady installer. Just my two cents. Won't get into details on where or how I found it. Just kind of a pain seeing as I did
buy the game, but I reaaaaaally don't want the DRM sooooo....

What are you, a DRM sycophant?

I read this as "I tried to install a fitgirl repack.."

If so, those repacks are the worse fucking thing. You really need a bad data quota to have to use those packs.. The trade off between size and time is just horrible.. When the installs actually finishes.. I have a very high end pc, always had issues installing those repacks..

Very well then, I think I'll pass on this one despites I have a constant internet connection.
Seriously, any fucking company who think it's a good idea to require this can simply fuck off and die! What kind of bullshit is this?! Don't they realise DRM keeps hurting the legit buyers?

PC MUSTER RACE! ;O;
In all seriousness, why? This kind of DRM has always been extremely unpopular and always walked back or cracked. It doesn’t prevent shit and it’s stupid as fuck.
We can always pirate the game without having to hack a console using an exploit so some type of modding. New consoles aren't even hacked yet and PC version superior.

So

PC Master Race!

Oh hey, one of the major reasons I bought Sonic Mania for Switch instead of PC.

I guess Activision must want people to pirate Crash 4 for PC, lol.

From a corporate standpoint it's simply taking measures to ensure they keep making profit, or make it look that way for investers
