you wouldn't be able to *see* your emunand by looking at the sd contents, emunand is a separate partition on the SD, that's actually how many people ended up updating sysnand originally as they assumed their nand dump on their sd card (usually a file called nand.bin or nandmin. bin) meant they were using emunand
This is not true. The folders like dcim and Nintendo 3ds still work as normal. The hidden partition stores your nand, thats it.

That's what he said. You can't see the partition just by opening it in windows explorer or sth

According to decrypt9 i have no emunand, which is weird because I tried a different program that detected it.

what are you talking about he said he seen 2 nands on his sd card implying one must be his emunand, the dcim folder is just where pictures are stored and don't mean anything at all in terms of how many nands he has, neither does how many folders are in the Nintendo 3ds folder either, while it can be a indicator its not fool proof as you make a new one every time you format your system or use the sd in a different 3ds, the only way to know for sure if emu nand is setup is checking in something like decrypt9 or with a partition tool on windows

Dear lord, do you know what punctuation is? Also thats not what I mean. When smash said he had 2 nands on his card hes talking about the 32 character folders inside the nintendo 3ds folder. You can easily tell which one is emunand by making a change like installing a game or app, then checking the "last modified" date on your pc. Saying that you cant see emuNAND on the sd simply isn't true.

If you have more then one, that's prolly why it didn't detect it. Just find some way to dump it
pretty sure decrypt9 can detect multiple emunand's unless he jist has a really old build

what program detected it?

again number of files in that folder does not mean he has emunand setup, it *can* indicate it, but it could just as easily mean he used the sd in 2 systems, or he formatted his 3ds at some point.....and if you want to get douchy, seeing files made by emunand even if they are is not the same as actually seeing emunand

I'm using a January build of decrypt9, and I can't remember the name. I'll look it up right now.

I have Emunand9, and it says "EmuNAND: SD not ready" at the bottom. Should I press "Complete EmuNAND Setup"?

well nope that just pretty much confirms that there is no emunand setup on that sd card, is it possible you swapped sd cards at some point and forgot or performed a full format/repartition and restored the files afterwards?

if you want to setup a new emunand then be sure to backup all your sd contents first as formatting emunand will wipe your sd card, so you will have to copy the files back on after doing so, but I would suggest you just go ahead and go for a9lh on sysnand and not worry about emunand stuff

Nope. I rarely take out my microsd card since it's a pain to take it out of a new 3ds.

Edit: a long time ago (around January I think) I switched the stock micro SD with a 64gb one, but i'm pretty sure I made the partition and it's always been fine til now.

If there's no risk involved, I'd be willing to do that.
There's always risk involved. Just follow the guide to the letter and you'll be fine.
I believe you can't really see it, because its hidden to stop foolz from tampering and breaking something. You can dump it with decrypt 9 if your trying to view it though
It's hidden because it uses a proprietary file system not reckonised by most Operating Systems. It shows up in disc management tools, but is usually labelled as "unknown" or "unallocated" in some occasions.

I'm probably gonna set up a new emunand. I would just go through with installing a9lh, but I have about 50gb worth of games installed, and I don't want to lose progress on some of them.

Well, you're going to lose all of that if you setup a new emuNAND. Sorry!

I hope you see this before you start the setup.

I didn't get to recover my old emunand, but yesterday, I was able to install luma3ds with no problems. However, I had to do the same with my brother's 3ds. When I was flashing the ctr 2.4, it froze and probably bricked his 3ds. The blue light shows that it's on, but the screen stays black. I also can't boot into recovery mode. I have his sysnand backed up, but do I have to open the 3ds and hardmod it to recover it?

try taking the sd card out and seeing if it boots (I guess you probably already tried, but If I don't ask someone else will anyway ;) )

and yeah If it's not booting even into recovery mode then a hard mod is the only other way to unbrick it
