My understanding of this is the sky3ds emulates a real cart, loads whatever rom you have into it's memory, then plays game. I know this is a very simplified explanation.

What is keeping someone from making there own modified rom? Like custom levels an things like that.

Is it a matter of encryption keys?

no, not on sky. the game has to be legit, not edited, because sky3ds doesn't remove any protection on the 3ds, it just 'tricks' the card slot

There's hope for a Xenosaga port.

No, it should not.
The reason is you cannot perform the required digital signature to your modified ROM.
You cannot store the new encrypted HASH, based on Nintendo's private key, so the last part of the verification process fails and the 3DS rejects its execution.

So, it's because we do not have the private key?

When we get the private key (I imagine not anytime soon) we can load custom roms with sky3ds. Get key, sign roms, profit.

The only reason I wanted to know was I thought a custom rom would be the solution to sky not having any interface. Example, load custom rom - be greeted with list of roms on sd card.

As you can tell I have zero programming knowledge.

The card was design to not have its own GUI, if thats what you are trying to get at.

I knew it was not part of the design. Just bored and trying to think of a workaround. You know, throw some ideas at the wall and see how many stick.

I knew someone was going to do it. Also that contributes nothing.
Neither does this thread. You knew the answer before you asked it.

  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:

    @SylverReZ, im still afraid of coming out irl tho
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
    @BigOnYa,
    Well, I had read that thread already, it does not mention moving saves from Emulator to OFW. Also I am not planning to edit/modify a save file. Just play a save file on an emulator, and then move it to OFW and play it on my switch.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    I wouldn't risk it, but do what you want. A console ban is loss of all online play, of any games.

    Not my online Mario kart races!

    @BigOnYa, I try to do a gdevelop event to make an enemy fire bullets if it is on screen and its in colision with a platform, but it doesnt work (and yes i downloaded the "is on screen" condition extension)
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    and the enemy has the fire bullet behavior
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    You can try in code, if player distance <1000
    then enemy fire bullets at player.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @BigOnYa, lemme try
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Or use the ray casting behavior for the enemies
