I want to buy a 500GB 3rd party Xbox 360 S internal drive. After the purchase I want to restore partition 2 with Xplorer360 so that I can play original Xbox games on it. Is this possible ?

If I do this, Does the HDD work like a genuine Microsoft HDD ?

The enclosure for an original Microsoft HDD cannot be opened easily, How about a 3rd party one ? Can I open the 3rd party HDD's enclosure easily ? I may want to put a different HDD in down the road ?

Assuming the hard drive was made correctly with the security sector file, then it should still work like a regular Xbox hard drive.

I recommend NOT using Xplorer360. Xplorer360 only supports certain size drives and will error out for whatever reason if it doesn't support the drive for whatever reason.

I had this happen to me when I made both an 80 GB and 500 GB hard drive without the security sector (RGH 3).

Instead, FATXplorer should be used as it will not error out if the hard drive does not have the security sector or isn't a specific size.

this is a nonissue with a jtag/rgh, but if it's stock, it needs to a wd scorpio or bevs drive iirc. that's the only drive we have the security sector of. creating partition 2 should be doable, yes. I don't remember how with stock though. with a jtag/rgh, it would be partition fixer.

than scorpio or bevs. afaik, those are the only ones that work. 500GB or lower I believe. I'm not sure about higher.

I am trying to buy a 500Gb 3rd party HDD that comes with the enclosure and already has partition 0/2/3 ... and then use Xplorer360 to restore partition 2.

You are saying I should use FATXplorer to restore partition 2 ?

if it has partition 2, all you have to do is install an update. that's the weird thing about the 360. it will install an update with or without an hdd. if you add in an hdd, you have to install it again. the wording is different when installing the update though.

but all the guides out there say for a 500GB drive one should use the Xplorer360 Extreme 2. ??
