Asian is probably their region-free version, for emerging markets in Asia, like China for instance.
One of the many perks of being poor.
Not everyone is poor you know @_@

I've got my 3DS yesterday from a local store here in the Philippines. And its Asian Version. Is there really such a thing? It says on the box "ASI". Its in complete English. The 3DS itself, manuals, box, leaflets, etc. And the lady in the story tells its really an Asian version. And the store only sells US version games. Luckily its compatible.

So that being an Asian Version 3DS means its also compatible with Jap version games? Sorry just a noob question. I also want to have those games. And if its compatible, I'll be much happy to import.

Thanks

I have the same problem. I saw (and was about to buy) a 3DS, maybe the local store you've mentioned in the Philippines is Data Blitz? Right? I asked the sales man there if they have the US version but said that it was Asian, and said that it was in English and US games are compatible. Should I buy?

The Asian version is a US version with the charger changed to suit asian standards (220 - 240V, 50/60 Hz). So it should only work with US games.

---ENGLISH TRANSLATION--
How would I know if the Nintendo 3DS is original and what branch could I buy the Nintendo 3DS for 13k or lower
[[lol. quick translation]]

I bought one on Datablitz (yesterday). It originally cost 13500 pesos, but paying in cash would make it cost 13000.
And AFAIK, There are no fake 3dses yet.

lol, how is it stupid?
Look it up.
China: population = mostly poor
Malaysia: population = mostly poor

I don't expect you people to understand what with your third world education and lower monetary standings.
*flashes a wad of cash*

And if you really think it's a perk to get a console that plays multiple game regions at the cost of about a months wages, then lol again.

in b4 this post is taken too seriously.

Maxsoft is Nintendo official distributor in South East Asia.
Their main branch is in Singapore, I believe.
Those who bought the 3DS with ASI on the box,
please register your 3DS here to validate your warranty.

Basically 3 regions only (for games region-locking)

USA, Japan and Europe.

Maxsoft imports USA consoles and just changes the charger. They also take away 'club-nintendo' stuff from the games as this feature isn't available here. That's all for local sets.

inafteretc.

How much do US or EU games cost coming from the US or Europe respectively there?
How much do Japanese games cost there?
That's what I meant.

I checked out Data Blitz the other day and I saw the games there were 1895 pesos each game.

And it would be awesome if it can really play other region games. Some of the best games don't get an English release and would be nice to play them.

Its Ver. 1.1.0-OU

I don't know what that means.
It must be a USA region 3DS, then. That's the firmware used for USA 3DS consoles. As to why the box says ASI, I don't have a clue.
It's nothing too complicated really, it might just mean where the 3DS has to be shipped (before it gets shipped), because I live here in the Middle-East, Bahrain. My 3DS box read "Saudi Arabia/Dubai (SA)". Most probably the seal just means that the game companies in different regions bought a license to mark it as "ASI, SA etc"

Yes and no. Yes you can register your ASI version 3DS on US Club Nintendo. Change the serial. ASI 3DS starts with CSxxxxxxxx. Change it to CWxxxxxxxx. And no, it(CN) asks for a pin which is not included anywhere in the box of the ASI 3DS. So your stuck at the "enter the pin" part. You won't get the 160coins either ouch XD But your warranty is extended up to 90 days because CWxxxxxxx registration is accepted.

Btw, I want to know more about that Maxsoft registration. How does it work?
