1st problem, you got an Acer.

Solution: Sell it.

Jokes aside, try using pcdecrapifier and ccleaner.

If you can, put an ssd in there and make it your boot drive, but you likely can't since you most likely have flash memory and not a physical hard drive.

Use another pc to download a windows 10 iso or use Microsofts windows 10 creation tool to make a bootable USB or disc. Continue from there to install windows 10.

Hey, at least it wasn't a Dell or Compaq. Then I could really see why it'd be so slow. Failing that, he can install Windows 7 or 8.1 on it.

Really? huh interesting I know to stay away from dell but don't forget about HP to ;)

HP is slightly better. Lenovo, Asus, etc are superior to Dell.

I'm talking about their laptops, mostly, not the best lifespan.

Hmm, I worked in a call center for Dell tech support, Dell laptops have a high rate of failure.
That doesn't explain the quality of a brand. Just because you had 100 phone calls for complain a day, it doesn't mean Dell is bad. Let's assume if the sales number is around 10k. That would be 1 percent of the total sales number. Additionally, sometimes you might find the problem is between the steering wheel and the driver seat aka the user.

You need more data such as sales number and failures number to make a comparison. Though, I know someone who had two Dell laptops with broken BIOS because of Windows 10 upgrade and Dell refused to fix those laptops. Again, though, I blame it on Windows 10 because it also broke my friend's ASUS laptop BIOS.

@OP what type of laptop do you have? Any model number? From your description, assuming that 32 GB is the hard drive, your laptop is probably an atom based laptop. It is designed to be portable, not fast and you probably cannot upgrade the hard drive except using sd cards. Probably, the best way to fix your problem is buying a proper laptop for your needs.

Can we get a model number for it? Would like a list of specs.

I'm guessing you have a 5400rpm drive, which is what my Acer had. Those things are absolutely intolerable

If it's 32GB chances are it's some sort of flash based storage.

My best guess is that it's some low end model that won't run worth a damn no matter what you do. Unless you installed some sort of low profile Linux. zzzzzz

NO. Don't get CCleaner. It will either do nothing at all, or it will completely mess up your system. More info about how bad it is: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3y84al/can_someone_explain_why_ccleaner_has_gotten_such/

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
    +1
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
