@Zap2000: Soundhax (followed by some others) is a pure software exploit and does not require anything besides a compatible firmware (3.0<=your device<=11.3). Note that Soundhax may not work if you updated the firmware with a cartridge and not via internet (but everything is explained in the guide). Soundhax is an easy and straightforward method.
Ntrboot with a compatible flashcard is independent from the system software and can’t be patched by Nintendo (hardware flaw allows code execution before the internal NAND is even read).
Read the guide carefully and follow it step by step. No matter what method you choose, the goal and result is always the same: Install B9S and Luma cfw.
NAND-backup is very important and it’s on the finalizing page.
@peacemakerstorm: Hard to say… Could have multiple reasons. Make sure:
- Your SD-card inside the 3DS is formatted with FAT32, cluster size 32kb.
- SafeB9SInstaller is on the SD-card inside your 3DS and named “boot.firm” .
- Your magnet triggers sleep mode reliably even when pushing buttons.
- The gamecard reader of your 3DS is okay and the flashcard makes good contact.
You can try to upgrade with a cartridge to a higher firmware, but Soundhax may not work. Perhaps other entry points for the Homebrew Menu do. (Read in the guide for more information)
Lastly there is Frogminer. Test if your DS mode is working
before upgrading (!!). Open Download Play and and Select "Nintendo DS" not 3DS.
If it boots, upgrade to 11.8 via internet and follow the instructions
here.
@iohanna29: Have you yet tried to bring up the Rosalina Menu with L+Select+Down(Dpad) while the system is booted normally? If you’re running Luma >=8.0 it should pop up. If FBI starts, you have some kind of cfw running.
But… you have FBI 2.4.2 which was released Aug 16, 2016; this was before B9S was released. If the previous owner did not upgrade, you may still have A9LH.
Please do not update the official firmware to 11.8 until we know, what is installed on your device.
The latest Luma that works with AL9H is
7.0.5. Try to put arm9loaderhax.bin from this release to the root of your SD-card and hold “Select” while booting. Hopefully the Luma settings are loaded.
@Kevin_Hawke: Check these:
- All buttons working?
- Maybe you've changed to button combination by accident? Rename the file SD:/Luma/config.bin , boot your 3DS, set "Show NAND or user string in System Settings" in the Luma configuartion and proceed with "Start". (Renaming and not deleting the config file in case you want to undo this)
- You are not trying to bring Rosalina up while in DS-mode or in GBA-mode (this won't work).
