So I can imagine that having the encryption keys it would be possible to...

1- Dump Pokemon X/Y data files
2- Edit them to save unencrypted saves
3- Run the hacked rom on Gateway
4- ????
5- PROFIT

just a small question. are the three sections mentioned in the key finder in some sort of header or something that determines the offset and size of respective sections? because a tool could be made that'd extract those parts altogether, decrypted properly of course.

3dsexplorer should be able to extract these sections. Then, the keys produced using this application should, in theory, decrypt those data sections.

Offsets of 3dsExplorer are calculated the wrong way. So yes.
The keys should NOT in theory be able to decrypt that fyi. Not those tho.
Ok gonna shut my mouth(really need to for now)

What are these keys to? Are they for decrypting the different partitions? It seems odd that they would just be stored in the rom without any protection. What else is needed to decrypt roms?

The system needs to start somewhere. However, the AES-CTR decrypting algorithm still needs to be cracked.

The funniest thing to me is that decryption of roms which leads to translation of roms still requires a method to pirate. Otherwise, how do you run the translated rom?

WAIT WAIT! WHAT? .szs?
Thanks Team Fail..
Time for translation, tools, rom hacks, and more. but I think nintendo might make future 3ds games with a newer algorithm and keys.
I can't do anything because I don't have a 3ds, a game(if I download a .3ds without owning the game it will be piracy), and a horrible gateway/flashcard.

Decryption doesn't mean piracy. As long as you have a 4.0-4.5 3DS, you can dump your own roms and do this.

So in addition to be fluent in multiple languages, you need to have mad 3ds skills? On top of that you need a 4.x 3ds. So assuming that you are fluent in japanese, why on earth would you bother translating this game for others since it's so much work for you.
