Hacking 2TB hard drives in PS3?

Hi, I have a very old fat PS3 that I'm trying to prep for 4.82 CFW, however I am seeing conflicting reports regarding use of 2TB hard drives -

I am seeing old threads indicating that 2TB hard drives do not work, however I am also seeing reports that 2TB hard drives work in newer threads dated 2017.

The firmware on this PS3 is probably old (it has not been turned on since 2014). Would an update to OFW 4.82 help?

Can the drive be portioned to 2 different sizes and be reconized?
