I want to apologize for my harsh reaction to the statements of yesterday, but to me, this ransomware attack was a terrible, really terrible event.
I was sure I took precautions to prevent things like that. I had backups on 4 different hard drives which I believed at the time to be enough
So someone questioning that this event happened in the first place is hurtful to say the least...

I didn't store it online or with someone else because I made bad experiences with the PSP Translation of Re:Digitize, where translations were stolen and leaked.
The backup that I had stored on a USB Stick was not as up to date as I'd hoped, which is why we lost something in the process. I currently estimate that we recovered 10% of what was lost already, 15% more to go, which as I stated should take approximately two more weeks.

Our current team consists out of 2 members, which is SydMontague (wo replied earlier) and me. As such, when his statement was being made fun of in that manner, it really pissed me off, because he's a great guy and a friend. He tried to clarify things and got only sarcasm in return. Things are already as bad as they could be, I can barely do any computer work as things are right now (I only have 60% vision due to the surgery)

But the reason @Issac I requested the thread to be locked were not some statements, but because I haven't maintained this post for quite a while and I no longer intend on doing so.
As such the information this thread contains is outdated, and as was pointed out by TheTrueDream42 is misleading, as it doesn't represent the current state of our project.

Why my edit of the original thread was reversed is beyond me, since I included the link to facebook, stating that this is where people can find actual information on the project.

Yes the ransomware attack and everything else happened in an unfortunate timeframe, but things like this do happen. Nobody could be more sorry about this than me.

I reversed the edit because it was a classic case of "taking the ball and going home". Feel free to edit it again, or I can do it, with a link to the facebook page and a statement that you aren't updating the thread ABOVE the current info that's already there, don't just delete the OP and put a link there.

And I still won't lock this thread, since people want to discuss it here. You don't have to be a part of it, but if other people want to talk about it, report what they see on facebook, and get hyped.. then let them. You just have to clarify that you're not maintaining the thread yourself in the OP.

I get it that it must have seemed like this, but the reason was that the current info is not representing the current state of the project, none of the screenshots or videos are.
As such I felt they were not a faithful representative state of the project.

Feel free not to lock the thread if people wish to keep discussing things here. I just wanted to clarify that this is NOT the current state of the project.

Then I just suggest you do that, clarify in the OP that you've moved to your own Facebook page, link to it, and that the screenshots are old and not representing the current state of the project. That's all that's needed, and looks way more professional than just deleting it all. ;) Good luck with the project

I do not regret my comment considering OP's attitude, I'd say it a million times over, however it was primarily a snap reaction.

Also I don't like how you're perfectly content with him calling people assholes and don't request he remove it whatsoever. That reflects poorly on you. His explanation and evidence in that post is perfectly fine. His attitude is not. If I can't get away with it, neither should he. I don't care who opened the thread.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Doesn't matter, though. I'm moving on. This project has already been completed on PSP. I'll stick with that. This one has taken far too long.

Yes, I removed my post regarding that.

The 3DS project hasn't even taken as long as the PSP project yet though. (And it has three times as much content)

Good luck with the project. Is something to look forward.
Is a shame about the ramsonware.

Also off-topic , in general here in gbatemp are some nice people (vinscool, apache thunder, cearp, veho, an england buddy that my brain refuse to remember...) but another part that is very rude and salty so Romsstar and all the others just chill out a bit.
Well i now will continue my lurking mode ...

Man, you go to work for a few hours an then this.

@Amapola62
Ransomware is typically distributed in an automated way without aiming at a specific target. Even paying the ransom does not guarantee in any way that data gets restored. And given how long back this has been, the chance for decryption is close to 0.

@LunarD3ATH
Your post is written in the form "I don't X, but". A rule of thumb is, that a "but" negates everything that stands before it.
-> your posts reads like "I mean to be negative" and "I'll not give them the benefit of the doubt".

I hope that makes it a bit more clear why it causes such an angry reaction, whether it be justified or not.

@mqk9999
Unlike Lunar's post, yours directly implies us committing fraud. This, combined with the way you write your posts, make an aggressive reaction very predictable.
That should make it obvious, that it's not the best course of action if you want a meaningful discussion (just like other actively aggressive actions, for that matter).

For fairness sake I assume you were not doing this on purpose — the alternative would be implying you're a troll. ;)

I've been in the fan translation community since the late 90s, so I guess I have a more frank and to-the-point outlook on things. I've seen more than my fair share of dodgy translation projects looking for "donations" , so just take it from an especially poignant, vocal angle and nothing more. I've been told that I can be rather curt woman, which is why I don't deal in public relations :rofl: I might call bullshit when I see it, but I'm not above admitting to making a mistake either. So I'll just leave a context-sensitive apology in that if I am indeed wrong, then I'm sorry. That's the best I can do I suppose.

hey guys as a software developer i've had to use version control systems such as Git, might be worth giving it a look,
it helps to control the versions of your project in the so called "commits", each commit represents a change in the project of the files, git creates a history of the changes of the files so even
if you mess up your files, you can ask Git to go back in time to a previous version. Also it helps with project sharing and creation of backups,
you can use websites as Github or GitLab to store the project, in the case of GitLab you can even set the repository as private
so only the user who creates the repository can make use of it.

Might be worth taking an eye on that

EDIT: also posted something very similar on the facebook page, hope you guys read me and my suggestions helps you

Thanks for the input. I've been advocating git for a while now and we're been using it for basically everything that needs to be shared (e.g. the tools I write). Unfortunately this didn't include the affected files at that point in time. :/

How else do you phrase "you sound suspicious" without sounding insulting? I really don't see a better way of saying it, but I will keep that in mind in the future.

Just drop it LunarD3ATH, there's no need to continue this tirade. Romsstar is a great romhacker with a proven track record. He's been kind enough to provide many updates on the project over the years and he will release it when he's done. It's newcomers like yourself that cause romhackers to get mad, if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all.

@Romsstar - Continue the good work man, I've followed your work for many years and you always release quality romhacks. Hope you recover from this eye problem too, I can't imagine having to go thru something like that.

Look, everything that needs to be said on this point. Tensions were high because of a miscommunication and because it's hard to determine the exact nuance of a response. Such is the internet. Now that both parties have explained their points of view on the matter, let's not add any more fuel to the fire.

Seems like every time I do, there's someone else bringing it up. My actions in this are all irrelevant, it's acting childish in response that causes the real issue and you know it. There is a SERIOUS problem with the 3DS hacking community and the way they act. Sometimes it's because they're young, other times it's because they are immature. Kissing up to them isn't going to solve the problem, it only makes it worse.

If you disagree, fine, but don't justify their actions simply because you want this translation done faster. That is the last I will say on this.
