The thing about having a different system is that people would either buy the old system rather than the new system because it's cheaper and either the new or old system wouldn't have as many sales. This would make their marketing strategies easier and better.
Well it could have been like having a portable only system at $200 and a 4K High performance console one at $400 Instead we got both for $300. I dunno much about the dock system except it lets me play my switch on tv and charges the battery and use USB controllers along with ethernet. Maybe more features like USB flash/HDD or some accessories will come but from what I see now is just to make the portable part work like a console. Many more people seem pleased with this than just having one or the other. Yes there is some flaws like not up to ps4 pro or xbox one x standards but nintendo hasn't really been trying to aim for that, just the "Innovation in gameplay" Having unique concepts for games rather than a powerful hardware. That mostly what they focused on.

I'm not saying any of this to be bad, just observing and sharing a opinion. If the dock is so special to the switch besides playing the game on the TV, then it has yet to be discussed in public by nintendo which is bad. If the dock does provide more than meets the eye then It should be known not hidden. Weather or not the dock that is included with the system can improve gameplay somehow, I yet to see it but if they can either by selling a new dock or accessory then just have to see about that.

Honestly? At this point, I'll take 60FPS and a smoother experience overall. To each their own.

They got some small PCs with onboard desktop level GPUs. It's not impossible.
Ok, it maybe possible but consider the cost for that I don't think it s a good idea.

The thing about this "addon" is that it is totally optional. Normal people who just are here for good games at a good price would buy the Switch and for the more demanding players they would buy the "addon" with it.

That was my initial argument. It's possible, just not entirely plausible.

What happens if it doesn't sell?

While I would prefer an updated Dock over an updated console, you have to keep in mind the Switch itself. Say Nintendo does do a 4K dock and games look great on it. What about when you undock the system? The difference will possibly be huge. Games would look horrible in portable mode compared to docked mode. I would also think that this would be more work for devs.

It should, but it doesn't mean it has that potential as well. Nintendo will know what to do after this point.

That is what the initial problem was in my head. I'm not 100% sure if this would work out, but am encouraging people to vote for this to see how Nintendo would sort this out. Very likely with not making it at all. Either way most people would have it docked since they are too scared to bring it anywhere or just don't have any friends (like me).

4K for about $600 is very cheap as I stated before. This would bring many new players to buying this console.
4K is not the best marketing for video games, of course I say that in my opinion. People make a bigger High resolution tv then try to sell it and then the game industry try to market games on it simply cause they can. I'm not saying that anything wrong with 4K, just is not always the best reason for playing games when buying one, especially when most of these 4K games are games we already played with the only improvement is graphics and not gameplay or content.

People buying nintendo products for Better graphics or 4K gaming is looking at the wrong console system.

That is just the price for the dock, you will need a Switch and 4K tv too and a big one at that to see any different if there is any at all. Ask yourself how many will ready to go that far for something like Switch? Nintendo game not exactly graphic impressive to begin with so I doubt many would buy it to justify making one.

Try saying that for the one X. Even if they don't have a 4K TV, they would still see major visual enhancements. 4K would even make a 1080p TV seem fantastic if downscaled and will be able to support more details (such as multiple entities in a game or denser grass) and would have a major FPS improvement.

People are buying the Switch, despite having 4K consoles and PCs. For the 4K dock or console mode of games, it would probably be easier since they don't have to optimize as much. Tho, they would have to deal with old switch and new switch.

One problem I see, is that devs may start making dock or home console exclusives. Just like how they did with N3DS. In fact, I think we already have a portable only game.

Ok, it may run in 4K with that but at what frame rate? And adding a GPU may heat up the dock more than you could think, a simple fan may not be enough for both of them.

And if it does work, it will just be HD upscale to 4K, it won't be that impressive and some may not even notice the different. I don't think 4K market is big enough for Nintendo to risk making this.
Games still benefit from the power, even if not 4K. That said, they don't even have to advertise the console itself as 4K. Just that this is the home version and show some updated or new games.

This would encourage people to buy both products.
Can't argue with that and it would probably be bundle with future Switches. Less convenient for buyers. Guess it comes down to, which would be safer and cheaper to make? That's probably a console.

We are talking about the possibility for a new dock, not the old one.

The dock just sends signal through it. It can as well be passed through the USB ports.
I'm well aware of how the dock works. I'm saying that if the USB Type C only supports charging (as stated above) then the normal dock would be Moot.

No it don't, most people I have ask agree that it doesn't look any better than normal HD. And I have seen it on my HD TV, not one different. And like I said, who pay that much for just a little bit different?

Larger TVs would make it seem lower quality, but it would also add in more support for higher end games and more detail to existing ones.
