8 Bitdo have Updated their controllers to work with the Switch

This is great news for those wanting to purchase a cheap controller but weren't able to. Well, now they can. The only problem is that the 8 Bitdo controllers are meant for NES/SNES games so not adequate to play games which require too many buttons (would work fine with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, for example).

Once 8bitdo go bluetooth 5 and stuff starts supporting bluetooth 5 it'll be okay. Right now, these controllers are only good for turn based games IMO. The current transfer rate of bluetooth 2.1 as they are using aswell as distance support prepare for some delay.

Only delay i have had with my Nes30pro with my RPI3 has been from my LCD tv, once put in "Game mode" all was fine, and now testing on the switch i didnt notice any obvious lag either, not while using Nes30pro alone atleast.

I am using CRT (that's analogue = 0 delay) and I notice that the 8bitdo controller sometimes doesn't do what I tell it to.

But for NES, there is a radio transmitted controller coming from the guy over @ retrousb. Which has a proven length of like 20 meters on a convention or so which is pretty insane.

Does the controller work on the Wii U (and Nintendont)? On the newest firmware? May consider getting one (also for Switch) - looks really nice.

Huh, I figured they were using Bluetooth 4.0 since it said you need a 4.0 adapter in order to use Wireless XInput on PC.

That's pretty cool... I would like to get one of the new ones with analog support. I won the SFC style one from a contest here before I was a mod (the winning review if anyone is interested lol). I used it a lot. with my phone and my computer. Worked really well. I can't say much about the BT lag though, I mostly played emulators where there was a tad bit of lag anyway.

Especially gaming on a crt lag is noticeable for me on poor lag handling screens and controllers.

Although I messed up my crt a while back and I'm unsure how to fix it, I have vertical collapse. I messed it up trying to adjust the pots for screen geometry inside, and I accidentally hit the electronic gun with my screw driver, there was a flashing pop, then vertical collapse.

I have a sony pvm which are some of the the highest of high quality screens. Though these are a bit harder to track down then regular consumer crts.
I luckily got mines for free, I would like to fix it some day.

Good luck with that. I used to be on Team CRT. In fact I do still have a 27" Trinitron, a later model with component. But the picture in the upper right corner is warped. And that is increasingly what you find with the CRT's out there - they're all 15 years old or older and broken or starting to fail. I gave up. Bought an XRGB mini Framemeister and next up is a decent HDTV. But this necessarily means a small amount of lag, so if the posts above about bluetooth lag on these 8bitdo controllers is correct, then they're off my list. I'll stick with my original controllers + extension cables.

Ya thats the problem with older anolouge displays, since you'd have to readjust the geometry picture to get it right.

Crts pvms and bvms are excellent. Wide viewing angles, low input lag, excellent color reproduction, high contrast, no motion blur, low input lag.
Not bad for the price of free for a high quality studio grade monitor. Though the hype might mostly come from America since we were mostly stuck with composite and hardly got rgb on consumer sets.

I would color calibrate my screen using a hardware colorimeter to movie industry standards, for a color accurate image, and image looked pretty good. And screen image was really sharp for being standard def. Lcds were mostly playing catch up over the years, and high end monitors have caught up pretty good recently. Oleds are definitely the future.

Ive done some more testing with my switch, and im not sure why i got input lag from all controllers before, been playing abit of minecraft three player splitscreen, with pro controller, joy-con setup and the Nes30pro, and it has been working great actually. There is some slight difference in how the analog motion translates to movement onscreen with the Nes30pro from the native switch controllers but no lag issues. So seems to work fine, think i might pick up one more Nes30pro infact. I give a thumbs up, with minor problems when i first synced that seems to have vanished.

so does that mean that there will be cheaper pro controllers in the future?

This is just that :) but yes ofcource more options will follow, 8bitdo should do a full controller for the switch, their stuff is "that's pretty good"

Neat, just updated my NES30 (without analog sticks) and it's detected as a Pro Controller on Switch. Without analog sticks and ZL/ZR triggers, it still works perfectly with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The D-Pad on the NES30 is mapped to the Pro Controller left analog stick.

I'm going to take it that the + & - buttons along with the home & screenshot buttons won't be available, but reguardless I would really enjoy this as a cheap alternative to a pro controller for playing games casually :)

And besides, i'd rather spend my money & save it for a car rather than a $60 controller. I have bought $20 max price for a controller but $60 is pushing it tbh.
(But granite that has like 12 buttons + amiibo functionallity so I guess it's understandable.)

Start is mapped to +, Select is mapped to -. The Home Button can be triggered by pressing Select and Down, but the Screenshot button isn't functional on basic controller models, but works on the "Pro" models.

Actually, it looks like the NES30 Pro and FC30 Pro have every official Switch Pro controller input covered perfectly.

Wanted to love the NES30 Pro but the bluetooth lag, as minuscule as it may be, made it impossible for me to enjoy retro gaming on it. Had to return it sadly.
I'm having trouble believing that a device which emulates retro games produced less lag than your wireless controller. Could you explain the setup you were using?
