I tried the latest nightly and the version from the homebrew app store. All I get is a black screen on start up.
I only have a USB flash drive plugged in the back of my Wii U.
Any idea what may be causing it?
Did you try it without the USB flash drive? Whats your setting? How do you load the app? Haxchi? Browser? HBL channel? Cbhc installed? Did you launch anything before start hid to vpad?

Would be possible to use the New 3DS as a controller? (Smash use it without internet)Or use the Wiimote as Pro controller
In theory you could make a homebrew app for the 3DS that acts as the network client. Somebody just has to code it.
Wiimote as Pro Controller would be probably possible, but doesn't the wiimote has some buttons missing?

I still got a black screen. I'm using Haxchi then launching the HBLC. I tried launching the HBL from the web browser, still got a black screen.
These are all from a freshly rebooted Wii U.

Really? i'll look for homebrew app then.
And about the wiimote, well it could use the "shake or swing". That'd be great (you could configure it in the .ini file)

is it just me, or does anyone have issues using hidtovpad for SSB4? I can't get my two xbox 360 controllers to work for that game. it seems to work fine for other games. I'm using the nightly version.

Sorry but motion controls stuff would be way to overkill. That won't happen, at least not from my side. Classic Controller to Pro Controller option sound more realistic

Did you try to press the TV buttons on your WiiU Gamepad while your'e in game?

Classic Controller as Pro Controller would be great as well (for Zelda BOTW)

If you are on a windows PC and have a bluetooth adapter or built-in bluetooth, you can use a programm called WiinUSoft to attach a Wiimote + Classic Controller which will act like an XBOX 360 Controller. Then, just use the hid to vpad network client to use the classic controller with hid to vpad. No special configuration needed, since hid to vpad already comes with a config file for the XBOX 360 controller

I don't wanna leave my PC on all the time. Besides, the Wii U is connected via WiFi, which means more latency.

I'm having trouble. Any time I use a ps4 controller (both new or old ones) it crashes the wii U immediately after opening any game. Any troubleshooting?

Just wanted to say thanks a million @Maschell! I got the latest version installed and am able to make even further use of my 3 WaveBird controllers with the Smash USB adapter. I never would have thought I'd still be using these 15 year old controllers! No complaints though of course, GameCube controllers>everything else for me!

I just pushed two updates for HID to VPAD.

https://github.com/Maschell/hid_to_vpad/releases/tag/HIDtoVPAD-v0.9h-nightly-9de3b8b

This will:
- add support for the Switch Pro Controller via USB
- and changed the pro controller emulation. This fixes these unity games, but may break something else.

It would be really cool, if some people can do some deep testing if everything is still working as expected. Different games and different controller setup (e.g. adapter with mutliple slots etc.). If you experience anything not working, please report it!
So far every game I tried worked, but you never know..

I also updated the wiki and added pages for the XInput and Switch Pro Controller configuration.
I didn't get any feedback for this version yet. Is everything still working?
