You either didn't download a ticket or you have a bad ticket.
im trying to install sig patcher, it says "
- Make sure your compatible DS VC is on your sys NAND (not USB)" what does it mean exactly? i dont have ds vc?
You need one to have haxchi and to sig patch your games I believe. Just buy one for like $7 then you don't have to use the internet browser anymore.

can i still install botw without haxchi and sigpatcher? i saw someone mention he installed fine with just mocha + wup

this is what i'm trying to install. the github installation guide mentions ds vc, should i just ignore it?
The one I linked does not require ds game, the catch is that you have to run it everytime you bootup Wii U. Must run it before install and before playing.
TBH I never used Mocha, I did CBHC. But if you are having trouble, try the sigpatcher.
1- Get the EUR game
2- Get the title.tik file
3- Get the Update file (Search that iso site, they provide links for everything)
4- Copy title.tik to the game folder
5- Using Nusgrabber Decrypt the game, this will create 3 folders
6- Create a folder and name it "BotW [ALZP01]"
7- Move the 3 folders created by Nusgrabber to the new folder
8- Decrypt thr Update file, no need to add any title.tik here
9- Copy the 3 new folders created by nusgrabber to the ALZP01 folder and accept any replacement
10- Copy the ALZP01 folder to the sd card
