Imagine: you've waited for the game, you got it, you're overhyped and....
You rush to the final boss directly and kill it: congrats, you beats the game xD
Not that easy, Aonuma said you'll be able to get to the final boss, beating is a totally different story.

With this mindset, OoT will never be surpassed, even though it already has been.

Hell, I think its immediate follow up, Majora's Mask surpassed Ocarina of Time. It just didn't have the impact that OoT had because OoT was such a drastic change from anything we had yet seen from Zelda, Majora's Mask looks exactly like it, but in my opinion it has a far superior and emotional story.

Prolly later there will be speedruns with some crazy dude beating it with a tree branch, but not on first play.
The guy from the Gamexplain video said he got to the boss, and ran with his tail between his legs. Then went to the south, and died immediately to a strong enemy.

ok. i dont get it. why does everyone think ocarina is the best game ever? its not anywhere near that good. i enjoyed. iv beaten it like 6 times. But there are SOOOOO many better games. It's not even the best zelda game. First, the game is incredibly linear, with a mostly empty overworld. All of the combat (save for a few memorable scenes)is really easy, mostly conisting of walking in a circle around the enemy until they drop their guard and then mashing the attack button. Dungeons consist of a rarely difficult labyrinth where you explore till you get an item, use the item to get to a new part, then fight a boss that requires you to use the item. theres no mystery in that. at no point in the game do you ask yourself "woah! how do i beat this boss?" because you already know. Lets compare that with the original legend of zelda. the world was open to you immediately, there were secrets everywhere, combat was tough, dungeons were confusing, and bosses are all beaten differently, with sometimes multiple ways of doing it. For example, manhandala can be beaten by stabbing it, or if your crafty, you can put a bomb in her path and blow her up. While the og zelda was flawed, it still created more of a feeling of wonder when exploring, and excitement when making it to a new boss and not knowing how to kill it.

I think it's simply because it hit the tooth of time back then and was a big step forward in gaming. Sure it was linear as hell but Hyrule Field alone was a big huge area in the time back then. From there it was gated into smaller areas of course. I for myself enjoyed dungeons over Majoras Masks open world back then which is why OOT is slightly better than MM for me but both of them are great games. For me it seems like BOTW perfectly find the middle between these 2 old school nostalgia games and finally get's into everyones heart eventually.

The true successor of OOT is TP, MM is more like an experiment to me. :/

oh yeah, i totally agree, its a good game. but its not like its the best ever. its incredibly flawed. its like, top 20, and only that because of nostalgia.

The GameXplain is the only one without spoilers. The one from GameSpot has some characters and info I didn't want to hear before playing it, same with the others. You are safe with Gamexplain.

Thanks for "taking the hit". I watched GameXplain's and it was really good, got me even more hyped in all the right ways without spoiling anything most of us didn't already know. I'll be sure to avoid all the other videos out there, but for an entire week that will be difficult!!!

I'm with @duffmmann here, played both OoT and MM, and i'd pick for replay a thousand times the latter, just because of the lots of ways to play the game and finish it.
Just getting the Fierce Deity mask is a pain in the ass i'd go thru again just for that Link "skin", probably that's why i bought the limited edition game for me when launched for 3DS and still looking for a N64 copy.

I feel Skyward Sword is the worst 3D Zelda game, but that's not really saying much, as they're all fantastic. I just didn't like how they made you run around the same three tiny areas again and again.

It didn't help my experience that for some reason, the game looks pretty awful on a decent sized TV compared to other 480p games like Brawl or Xenoblade. It was like it was made to run at a higher resolution that it could.

I bought the game at release when I was 13, and after growing up with NES/Genesis/SNES, it was a drastic change from any game I (and likely anyone else) had played. I even got Mario 64 at N64 launch for Christmas that year, but I will always regard OoT as the best game ever even with how linear it is now. I'm not sure when you first played it, but playing it through pre-2000 was a very different playthrough then now, I mean speed runners can beat it in under 15 minutes today. Back then I wow'd my cousin because I beat it in under 12 hours in a single day because it was just considered to be a HUGE game.
