Well, Failed to open Backup File. Before I reformat my SD card, is it safe to proceed? Did it do *something* before failing?

EDIT: Well it was a lock on my sd card adapter. Apparently my PC didn't care so I had no idea it was even locked, no indication outside just a switch you can drag. :)

Worked perfectly! Got Mii channel back as well. Thank you very much. Very happy with this.

Great job FIX94!

Some (not so) few questions:

1) Is a Y USB cable really necessary?
2) What's the max supported size of the USB HD?
3) Can we use any USB por or it must be a specific one?
4) Can a possible 5.5.2 or 5.6.0 firmware detect the vWii homebrew and brick/ban/etc?

1. If your selected HDD needs to draw more than .5A over the USB port to operate, yes. I don't use those things, only HDDs with its own power supply.
2. Unlimited, but the Wii U will only be able to use 2TB
3. You can try but back top is recommended.
4. Anything is possible, but not always probable. I would not download a 5.5.2 or a 5.6.0 until the all clear is given on this forum.

Tnx a lot!

FAT32 is far from being unlimited, but I can't remember how big a FAT32 partition can be.
You asked about the size of the drive, not partition. It will support a 8TB drive if you desire just not efficiently. :)

2TB is the common maximum size for the partition but I have heard of wizardry that can push it up to 4TB maybe higher. I am still using a 10 year old 300GB stuffed in a CompUSA enclosure. It is IDE IIRC. More than enough for a ton of Wii games.

yes, that's big enough :D

Another question, can the same HD be used for Wii and for WiiU's vWii? A friend of mine has a HD that already works on his Wii, I wanna take it to try my vWii before buying one.

If it is a FAT32 partition yes. I used my Wii HD directly with my vWiI with no problems.

It has been a long time ago but I recall at one point in the Wii days the HDD was formatted in some special format, not FAT32. That may not work, idk.

Yes. As I remember, HD has to be formatted in a special way to be used on Wii. There's an app that copies wbfs games to the HD. I think wbfs is the file system and games go in there, we download 1 wbfs per game and HD is formatted as wbfs, then we use that app to extract games from their wbfs file and copy them into HD's big wbfs. But that's what I understand of if, I'm probably wrong.

I just wanna know if a HD that works on Wii (full of games, Wii's Homebrew Launcher recognizes it, lists its games and launches them) will work on WiiU's vWii too.

Another point. That HD works on Wii without an Y cable. Will it be powered by WiiU or is WiiU's USB power supply shorter than Wii's?

Wbfs that was it. Again if the drive is formatted wbfs I don't know if it will work, but I know FAT32 will with the games in the wbfs folder. I never use external drives that rely on the USB port for power, only self powered ones. If your HDD does not have its own power supply then you will likely need any cable.

The WiiU USB ports only supply .5 Amps and while adhering to the USB 2.0 specs that is not enough to power a HDD.

Also use UStealth on the drive so the Wii U does not nag you to format it. Just remember you used it or you will freak out when connecting the HDD to a PC and it doesn't show up. :)

Huh it turns out nintendont works with GC adapter:

Already compatible USB-HID controllers
The following USB-HID gamepads and adapters are working and included in Nintendont:
  • PS2 Dual shock
  • PS3 Dual shock/Sixaxis
  • PS4 Controller
  • Logitech Rumble Gamepad F510
  • Trio Linker v1 (GC, DC, PS)
  • Official WiiU GameCube Controller Adapter [WUP-028] - Supports 4 players and rumble on Wii and WiiU. Supports Gamecube controller, Wavebird, Dance mat, bongo, probably all official controllers too.
  • All third parties Wii U GameCube Controller Adapter clones
  • Mayflash Wii Classic Controller to USB adapter for PC [PC052] (Multiplayer support!)
  • Mayflash Wii Classic Controller to USB Adapter [PC045] (Multiplayer support!)
  • Mayflash Wireless Wii U Pro Controller Adapter [W009] (Multiplayer support! L/R analog are not working because WiiU Pro lacks analog shoulder buttons)
  • Mayflash 3 in 1 Magic Joy Box adapter [PC035](only GameCube and PS/PS2 ports. The Xbox controller doesn't work).
  • Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 Joystick
  • Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 SA
  • CronusMax adapter (for Xbox 360 wired controller)
  • CronusMax adapter + Xbox360 PC adapter (for Xbox 360 wireless controller)
  • Standard/commonly used USB-HID controller.
  • and more...

That's very interesting! I don't see xbox 360 gamepad on the list. Isn't it supported?

I do have boot.elf in the root of the SD card. But Mii-channel says "No boot.elf found!".
Can any one help me please?

I cant seem to install Homebrew Launcher.

I injected the Hackmii installer, when i go to vWii and go to the Mii Channel a black screen comes up with 3 lines, the last one being "launching booter" after that i get a black screen and nothing else.

I have the boot.elf in the root of my SD and i don't have any HDD plugged in so i dont know what is the problem. I also tried to restore Mii Channel and try again but still get a black screen after "launching booter".

Many thanks in advance!

@FIX94

I'm having the exact same problem. Did you ever solve this? I've tried multiple SD cards. Everything works perfect up until the HackMii installer should come up. Fat Init, Copying booter, launching booter, then I get a black screen. The Hackmii disclaimer never comes up and I need to pull the power.

OK, I noobed it up!

I used wuphax succesfully, got my vWii to install homebrew channel and installed WiiFlow channel and the relevant CIOS for vWii. Then completely monged out and formatted the SD Card I had just used for wuphax!!

Yes, that's right. I have lost my Mii Channel backup. So I now have a vWii hacked as intended, without the ability to revert.

I haven't told the missus yet as I'm hoping there is a way to fix my screw up. Am I screwed or not? Feel free to chastise me and call me names. I deserve it!!!

32GB PAL, Wii U
