When the Virtual Console launched on the Wii, exactly a decade ago (3 days from now, to be exact) it was an awesome service and Nintendo gave us 2-3 games per week until around late 2008-early 2009. However when the 3DS and Wii U consoles came out, not only did none of them launch with VC games (both consoles took months for VC games to be added to their eShops) they released less VC games, only an average of 1, sometimes 2 games a week. Then there was that time from February 2015 to February 2016 when they released the Donkey Kong Land trilogy and then we didn't get any VC games for the rest of 2015. It wasn't until February 2016 until Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow were released and later SNES games exclusively for New 3DS models, did we would get more VC games for the 3DS. I really hope the Switch has VC support at least 1-2 months after it launches. I mean they have to test them and that could take awhile, maybe that's why it took months for the 3DS and Wii U, where the Wii had them already prepared by November 2016, when it launched. They also need to transfer every type of VC platform from both 3DS and Wii U; NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, TG-16, and GG and if possible, Wii (Not sure how the Wiimote and numbchuck would work with the NS, but I'm sure they could pull it off since you just de-attach the controller). Given that they only release Wii VC games, I'm pretty sure they'll be on the NS, but will require a Wiimote and/or numbchuck for most games, but a few like Xenoblade Chronicles will use the NS gamepad. They also need to add GCN, SAT, DC, and later down the road, 3DS games to their service. I know 3DS games won't come for about 2-4 years since they're still making new 3DS games. But just like how the Wii U got DS VC games, I'm pretty sure the NS will get 3DS games when they fully discontinue the 3DS. I couldn't image the NS without any Virtual Console support. I know Wii U games will never be BC since that would require hardware emulations, which the NS lacks, but having almost every one of Nintendo's past consoles (excluding the Wii U and Virtual Boy) would really awesome! I just hope we go back to having 2-3 games a week, like we did during the Wii era!

Your weekly Virtual Console rants should just be a regular GBAtemp feature. :P
Sorry, but this is not IGN!

Those fuckers wrongfully perma-banned me last year thanks to this asshole named Adam. I asked him to please lift my ban in an email and the son of a bitch then proceeded to perma-banned me and he had NO PERMISSION to do so. Someone else tempa-banned me and it was't that asshat! I hope the motherfucker was fired from IGN, but I doubt it! The bastard even did it to me last Christmas Eve! Fucking asshole!

I would rather they did a better job with the native game lineup.
It seems everyone is more preoccupied with backwards compatibility and the ability to play old games than they are with actually having new titles. You know, the whole point of a new console?

Also the obsession with remakes. Who cares about Old Game HD? Just play it on its original platform if you want to play it, and if it's gotten old enough that it's hard to get said platform then time for a VC release. I think people are too nostalgia blinded and not thinking about new titles as much.

I mean, with a moderate PC you can emulate pretty much any VC game. But we will pay our hard earned money on it again, I'm guilty of it too.

I'm sure the switch will have VC on it but it may or may not take some time since the Switch is a whole different ball game than the previous consoles which were all very similar as far as development.

I do wish, and there was no excuse the Wii U couldn't do this, that instead of straight emulation on the VC we get a better emulation mechanic that can do wide-screen, run at 60fps, render at 1080p, and sharpen textures like we see with Dolphin and PJ64. I know Nintendo could easily do it (probably won't since they are kind of set on keeping VC as close to the original as possible) and if they did, I would pay $20 for an updated Mario 64 or I'd even pay a Full $60 for Xenoblade Chronicles in HD even though I have a PC with the custom texture packs as well as the Wii and 3DS versions.

And maybe this time they won't have a userland vulnerablilty in the DS and n64 emulator.

I would love emulators with the option to play at 2x speed or the like. I mean, since they have to rewrite them anyway, adding some new features would be nice.

I already have my phone, but if I'm going to be taking my dedicated video game platform with me, I'd like all my video games on that platform. I like supporting the franchises and types of games i like by buying them on the current platform.

i wonder if the Switch would be powerful enough to emulate gcn games. but that'd be a great thing. playing your fav gcn games on the go...
hopefully they will bring a decent n64 lineup. i would also love seeing Mega Drive games there. And as said above, Saturn and DC titles would also make the Switch's VC really special

Saturn and Dreamcast... Probably not. There are very few games on the Saturn and DC that are exclusive (or worth emulating) so I'd say no. We have better odds of SEGA releasing HD remasters of the games like they did with Nights and SA2. Genesis/Mega Drive is a big possibility. I mean, the Wii had Genesis (IDK if Wii U does) but SEGA and Nintendo would both benefit with it because I'd probably shell out $8 for classic Sonic on the Switch. I would really like to see iOS/Android versions of Sonic 1/2/CD (and hopefully 3K) come to the Switch. They are by far the superior versions of the games since they run at 60fps and 16:9. Plus they look so dang crisp and with Sonic Mania coming and the success it will have maybe they will bring some "HD" Genesis games to the current Gen Consoles.

This video shows the nVidia Sheild running Dolphin. It uses a last gen version of the Tegra Chip in the NX so if it can run it, so could the Switch. Will Nintendo put GC VC on the Swtich? We will have to wait and see. But there's no doubt that it can and since Nintendo has everything it would need to run it there is no reason to see.

This is of course unconfirmed, but Eurogamer are usually very reliable, giving us Switch (and PS4 Pro, including exact specs) well in advance....http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...ch-will-have-gamecube-virtual-console-support

"Nintendo Switch will be able to play GameCube games via its Virtual Console service, three separate sources have confirmed to Eurogamer.

GameCube support is already tested and working, we understand, and three Nintendo games have already been prepped for Switch.

Those games are Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion and Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Wii, Wii U and 3DS have all offered a Virtual Console service for downloading games released on earlier Nintendo hardware. Switch will be no different.

And while the number of platforms to be offered on Switch's Virtual Console has yet to be nailed down, we've heard that there should be an upgrade programme similar to that available on Wii U, where earlier purchases of Virtual Console NES games can be 'upgraded' for a small fee rather than being bought again at full price.

We've also heard that Nintendo Switch's Virtual Console is being engineered by (Nintendo European Research and Development) NERD, the studio behind the recent NES Mini micro-console which sold out in many stores ahead of Christmas.

Up next on its slate? A version of the GameCube Animal Crossing is currently being tested for potential release.

Animal Crossing is a particularly interesting title as it included more than a dozen NES classics - such as Donkey Kong, Mario and Zelda - to obtain and play within the game.

Impressively, we've heard that support for these games is currently in Animal Crossing's Virtual Console build and working. So, if all goes to plan, you would be able to be play an emulated NES game within an emulated GameCube game on your Switch on the bus.

Nintendo is also looking at Switch support for the Wii U's GameCube controller adaptor peripheral, although we understand that a final decision has not yet been made."

Gah, [if correct] more 'upgrade' prices if you already own the game, but looks like we may well be getting GC on VC!

From that wall of text I got two things:
1. The Switch's eShop will give you a dramatic discount if you already own the VC title for the Wii U
2. The team that made the NES Mini (including it's far superior emulator engine) is behind the Switch VC.
3. *deep breath* GAMECUBE TITLES

With those three things I'm happy. I'd like cloud saves but that's further down the road.

Still wish that they can use the Nintendo Account to keep track of your purchases and actually let you download the already purchased games for free on the Switch.

That would be nice, except they still have to port the games to each console, and that costs money. At this point Nintendo really needs to look at standardizing the emulator so they can just swap in the rom file, and use the same gamesave data.

Here's what the discounts should be:

NES: $0.50
SNES: $0.75
N64: $1.00
GBA: $3.50-4.00
DS: $5.00
Wii: $10.00
TG-16: $1.50-2.00

Hopefully GCN games will only be around $9.99-14.99 and assuming that 3DS games come to the Switch VC, sometime in like 2020; they'll probably be around $14.99-$19.99. That only means Wii U is not compatible, besides we're getting ports of games like Splatoon.
