It should be possible to build a homebrew that allows one to record directly from the DS. Probably insanely difficult (I hate programming with a passion), but it should be possible. Maybe make it upload via wifi and a recieving program on the computer.

I like LPs, I watch them because it's entertaining to see what people's reactions are to difficult sections of games. However, I dislike the shit quality of DS recording - I record reviews on the DS, and the tripod option is very annoying.

Well... Theoretically you could program something to port it to the output port, though that may be too much data at once. You'd also have to make your program emulate all of the games you want to record (in theory?).

Otherwise you could possibly do a hardware hack and intercept the data that's going to the top/bottom screen, then clone/display it to both but...

When a game is loaded the RAM empties, anything running before the game is loaded will be flushed out of the RAM. I've seen some setups of the DS being hooked up to proper recording equipment, but it involves opening the DS and I doubt it's possible for the basic user.

No$gba isn't too bad at running most games though, so it's usually an option.

Law stop trolling and hijacking this thread if you guys want to troll go somehwere else
Ontopic:
If you did make a homebrew for it i don't even think that would be possible unless you had a dsi or something

'tis possible to record directly from a DS, but you need expert hax skills to do it

Loopy did attach two 14" (i think 14") screens to a DS, so I assume it would be possible

google "Loopy" and "Jumbotron DS"

My emulator is too slow and I have too find some way to start my let's play on spirit tracks the reason i want to directly record from my ds is for quality sake so can some one help me
might sound silly but are you usng an emulator but with sound ???
Try running the emulator without the sound turned on - you may get a few more FPS
I had similar problem with NoGBA, but after turning the sound off - it was a little bit more smoother running
Another tip - if given a choice of encoding use 'Full frames - Uncompressed' it may cause large video files but it doesn't use up as much procesor time as if you're trying to encode/compress 'on-the-fly'

(I'm currently have Desume 0.9.5 installed & this seems pretty quick)

correct.
the only way you probobly can record currently is to:
1. use an emulator
2. use a cam
3. disassemble your ds and manually manipulate the data to be able to read in some sort of recording device, most likely home created using arduino or something similar.
So in other words, you'll just have to deal with it.

the method of a homebrew running in the bg recording game play is highly unlikely because:
1. the ds's hardware is very sucky, and the DSi won't even be able to handle it (think about it, some modern pcs sometimes get high cpu loads during video rendering or recording).
2. when recording, the program will have to continuously save to the micro sd, or some other device if its not a regular flashcard, which will obviously be more loss in time due to heavy loads on the ds its self, as well as the micro sd.
3. most homebrews can't even run commercial roms properly. So even if somebody does make an app, unless it is part of a flashcart, it will most likely be very buggy.

I don't thik that you can do such a thing from a DS, but from an emulator on a PC it is very possible. You may need to download a program, but I'm not sure as I've never done this. Good luck with your videos though.

Nice try, troll, but what I'm saying is the truth. It's exactly what this kid is going to go out and do.

lol, aren't you the one who shot down the OP with a useless post, and had no intention of answering his question? Not only that, but you're now ruining his thread by arguing with other members who only want you to stop.

By definition, it seems that you are indeed the troll.

Isn't there a three month rule for LP's anyway? What ever happened to the honor and integrity of an LPer *shakes head*. Oh and I've figured that I'm funnier IRL than I am in front of a camera

If you have a DS you have a hardware option to record game play: http://3dscapture.com/ds/index.html

If you have a DSL, your out of luck.

If you got a DSi, Katsukity had a DSi capture card but is no longer listed on any of his capture card sites. Katsukity does have a DS capture card option as well.

http://www.3dsvideocapture.com/product-list/1
capture card options are at the bottom of the list.

Also, if you want to make a decent-looking LP, you should just try out an emulator like No$gba if it works well enough. But yeah, you may as well learn the game before actually making one.
no$gba runs and looks like trash compared to desmume...

In fact I use my n3DS (A9LH) with a R4, and the homebrew way would be my favorite (my DS is broken since ages, my DSl died last year, DSi has L and R buttons dead).

Even if I can use DeSmuME, I prefer playing with my console, I don't like playing on keyboard :/

^ and i think there is an homebrew to use the 3ds as a controller via wifi
if you have bluethoot you can most likely use your ps3\wiimote if you have them or any usb controller

anyway we can use a N3ds to record gameplay (or to stream it) but i dont think it works under DS MODE because ds mode pretty much disables the 3ds part... i dont know if it does support O3ds
