Not really, it's still software / Hardware. It's all prone to brick, that's why it comes with a big ass warning label lol.
Scenario:
Using a fake sd card, card decides it's going to crap out in the middle of writing to the NAND, software locks up, console bricks.
Scenario 2:
User does not have 3ds plugged in so it has steady power source, battery dies, etc....
Scenario 3:
Software just decides to freeze.
You still have to downgrade to 9.2, all this really does is save a lot of time from making backups, etc.
It is still safer than the old method as you don't have to write as much data. Having to setup an emunand partition+multiple formats+multiple nand backups+title downgrade+nand flash+otp vs nand backup+nand flash+otp.
Depending on whos doing it i guess. I never formatted, didn't bother with backups as well, i always have one from the hardmod.
Before all data was written to the sd untill it was time to unbrick 2.1 / copy over sysnand.
Now, its just stream lined straight to sysnand.
I think this method only work for eshop content, like demos, games and DLCs

I do not have another 3DS that can be Custom Firmware'd as of right now. It technically could, but the SD reader does NOT work.

The only two methods are DSiWareHax or hardmod I'm afraid. Get your second 3DS fixed or get another one (you can sell it afterward).
hello fellow 3ds owners.
since it made the frontpage i hacked my o3ds (ambassador) with the most recent guide.
its working fine, so nothing to complain there.
now where i may need help with:
1) as a day-1 gateway user i obviously have an archive of 3ds files rather than cia. ive seen there is a converter for that. does that thing work without hassle? ie: convert and be done with it?
2) upon installing those cias. where do they get installed to? sd card would be preffered obviously, since the nand cant be that big eh? or is there even a choice where to install em?
3) for months maybe even years, i only glanced at 3ds topic, since i rarely use mine, and when i did, i just popped the gateway card in there and play the specific game i wanted. however, now that im arm9 master race, is there a way to install themes like the majoras mask theme that got released with the game for example?
4) reason i followed through with the hack was to not worry about some hidden settings i had to know. i want to just charge it, power it on, and start games that i find on it when im feeling nostalgic in a few years. so is there anything i should worry about or install furthermore to have it prepared to survive the time?

Atm I have a9lh, Luma3DS and some CIA's installed on a 8gig SD card.
Would I be able to copy ALL the files from the 8gig SD card to a bigger (64/128gig) SD card and just insert it in my 2DS again?

Hi guys I updated Luma3ds with Luma updater from 5.5 to 6.0.1 when the update was finished I started Luma3ds updater again to check the version and to verify if its correctly installed. Instead of seeing current version installed = 6.0.1 there was this "red ". I tried to run the installation again with the same Homebrew still the results were same. Then I decided to update it manually by downloading the 7zip file from the official download website and copy pasted the all the contents on the root of my sd card, after doing it I opened up the Lumaupdater still I see the "red " as current version installed. Is this normal?

I purchased a new nintendo 3ds as a gift with fw 11.0.0-33e on it.
Because I stay in South africa I am unable purchase a flash card for the console to play roms. I read on the forum that you could install cfw on the console. would I be able to do this without hard modding the console?
another question, If I were to install cfw on the console would i Be able to play smash brothers online or perhaps trade mons in pokemon X?

You need to downgrade it, but that is not easy on 11.0. You have to downgrade NATIVE_FIRM first, using either DSiWareHax (requires a second, hacked console) or a hardmod (requires soldering tools, wires and a compatible SD card reader, or you can post it to someone and pay them to do it for you).
