I am contemplating on going for the A9LH, however after reading the Plailect's Guide, at the somewhere in the middle it states to update your EmuNand to latest version and towards the end, it states flash your EmuNand to SysNand. This would mean that my 3DS would be updated to the latest version firmware. What if I want to keep my 3DS at the original firmware it is on? So I guess I am asking, would it be safe skip the update EmuNand step, so I can preserve the version that the SysNand is already on? Why would it be required to update EmuNand to latest version to flash onto your SysNand? I think this A9LH is the way to go because, I would like for it to stick even after an accidental update and not bogged down like GW version, and still be able to use GW. I also want to keep using EmuNand.

Read the guide again. There are more steps to do before you flash EmuNAND to SysNAND.

i hacked like 5 devices with this, my cousin bricked his 2DS because when he was transferring files over his laptop died like literally a second from being done. he thought it made it and tried to continue, bricked his 2ds lmao, other than that it's a easy guide.

Read the guide again. There are more steps to do before you flash EmuNAND to SysNAND.
  • 6. Update your RedNAND to the latest version using system settings if it is not already (DO NOT ENTER SD CARD MANAGEMENT OR EXIT SYSTEM SETTINGS AS THIS WILL REBOOT YOU INTO SYSNAND) This comes first before creating emuNAND_original.bin
  • 21. Backup EmuNAND to emuNAND_original.bin (you can use Up and Down / Left and Right to change the name)
Section IV - Copying RedNAND data to SysNAND
  1. Open Hourglass9 from arm9loaderhax by holding Start on boot
  2. Go to "SysNAND Backup/Restore..."
  3. Select "SysNAND Restore"
  4. Confirm and restore from emuNAND_original.bin
  5. Your device should now be able to boot properly once more.
So yes, this means that the SysNand will be on the latest firmware because specifically the guide tells you to update EmuNand to latest version then make that backup and again towards the end of the guide, flash the updated EmuNand to SysNand. So I believe that I did read the guide correctly. My question is what happens if you not update your EmuNand and leave it at the current version? Will it brick?
EDIT: I forgot to mention that my N3DS is already on 9.2.0U

Again, you skipped several steps already.

The first part you posted is from here: "Part 4: 2.1.0 Downgrade" and upgrading RedNAND to the latest firmware is necessary in this part.

The second part is from here: "Part 5: arm9loaderhax" and it says to flash your EmuNAND as SysNAND using Hourglass9 after getting A9LH installed because Luma3DS can't boot a 2.1.0 NAND. Once you flash EmuNAND as SysNAND, you'll still have A9LH.

And for your question, while the guide says to update EmuNAND to the latest version, you don't technically have to. But since the guide says to, you may as well for the best results. If something happens, it's most likely not the guide's fault since many people have followed the same guide and were able to get through it just fine. The most likely for something wrong to happen is from user error (as in, you did something wrong).

Well, it's fine not to use A9LH. You don't really have to. It's great, sure, but in the end, it's your choice.

In what part of the guide where it says I can flash back my original sysnand or before updated EmuNand? It clearly states upgrade and then make backup and then after installing A9LH, use that said backup on sysnand. I was under the impression that to keep A9LH I cannot flash a pre A9LH install nand image. Are you stating that I can flash my non updated nand image to sysnand without losing A9LH? The guide seems to contradict that.

The guide says to use Hourglass9 (not Decrypt9). You can look it up here: Hourglass9

What is this good for?
Hourglass9 is nothing new - all the functionality found within it is in Decrypt9, too, and possibly was in Decrypt9 for ages. What new it brings to the table is simplicity and (even more) safety. Arm9loaderhax is a prequisite for this, and with it, it is impossible to brick your console with Hourglass9. So, the rather short list of features:
  • Dump your SysNAND / EmuNAND - to make backup copies you can later return to.
  • Restore your SysNAND / EmuNAND - to return to an earlier state. This will never overwrite your existing arm9loaderhax installation.
  • Validate existing NAND dumps - to make sure they are ready to restore.
  • Dump & Inject the Health and Safety app - to setup a CIA installer in your system. More info here.
  • A nice dragon logo - you wouldn't have expected this, right?
A9LH is a prerequisite. By the time you reach that point where it said to restore your updated EmuNAND (11.0) to SysNAND, you already have A9LH installed and you're using Hourglass9 to do its job to restore EmuNAND to SysNAND while still keeping A9LH installed.

Ah yes, thank you, now I understand. Should have mentioned that earlier for hourglass9. That one little line would have saved us a lot of headache. I never ran the software let alone downloaded it, just contemplating on going forward with the A9LH install.

No problem. Again, you don't have to go into A9LH. If you're okay with your current setup, you can stick with it.

I just might do that. After just now reading about A9LH v2.1 and not having compatibility with GW, I like GW for their cheat feature and the nature of finding codes. I am thinking by following the guide will probably net me a v2.1 A9LH.

Man, I was afraid about screwing up everything in both, my O3DS and NN3DSXL but decided to go to A9LH from a MenuHax set up in both cases, the Plailect's guide is really easy, even for me, not being the english my native language, ofc, I could followed the spanish one (in my case) but I just thought it was clearer the main one.

Succeeded twice, hence I'm.

PS: The people in the IRC channel was also quite nice, they helped me out in some circumstances where I couldn't completely understand a step, or one delayed a ton.

EDIT:

Man, that sucks, that's why I always do these kind of process plugged in.

What happened?
1.
In the part of the plailect guide which says:
"Do NOT use the original payload_input.zip or data_input.zip with SafeA9LHInstaller v2 or you will BRICK!"
I didn't understand what that meaned. So i asked here on GBAtemp and i refused to continue til' i would get an answer
Apparently, it means i cannot use the data_input.zip files before the v2 of SafeA9LHInstaller came out

2.
So i didnt had the SafeA9LHInstaller.dat on the root of my SD and in the section II Part 5. When i entered to the dukesrg arm11 page it didnt loaded the SafeA9LHInstaller but instead loaded the OTPHelper
I even came through a Spanish guide we're it said i needed MiniPasta and i thought i had to recover my 9.2 sysnand
But then i searched here and apparently i needed the SafeA9LHInstaller.dat on the root of my SD...oops

Anyways, everything is fine. Except that my .cias got deleted but oh well :3

I was on 10.7, bought FreakyForms Deluxe for about $25,00, used Plailect tutorial, it was nice without a single error.

It really was worth the 4~5 hours that took me to make happen it.

I bricked one white o3ds because I executed shadownand installer instead of SafeA9LHinstaller through 2xrsa to skip some steps. Everything looked dandy fine until the reboot into a9lh. All went dead. Pretty anecdotical since it even managed to grab the otp.bin of the system (I have no way of knowing if it's correct, but at least is there and with good file size). So it must be something funny with the firms encryptions. I am trying to get hardmod into it to recover sysnand and start again. Just follow Plailect's guide to the letter, guys.
