Tbh, I prefer doing it all on an older Wii model. No hassle for Gamecube controller support, and it's easy to find a Wii for less than $30 nowadays. Also, if you muck up your Wii, you're not screwed like you would be if you mucked up your Wii U...I have a Wii already softmodded, but it's kind of a hassle to switch between my wiiu and original wii just to play games from my USB drive, so I wanted to softmod my WiiU
I was concerned because I see you can't install priiloader on it. How can I be sure to protect from a small brick? Is it even worth softmodding if I already have a perfectly fine softmodded wii?
I want to play GCN games too, obviously using devolution as DIOS MIOS doesn't work on it... but does devolution even work on Wiiu?
And is the only way to mod it with a game? Or does the letterbomb exploit work?
Yes, you can install pretty much any .wad you want. Running them is the issue. Certain channels and channel forwarders require modification to work properly on vWii, but most won't brick your machine, they'll just crash. Better safe than sorry though. All WiiWare and VC games that I have ever tried worked without a hitch, no conversion or modification needed. Can you install wads in vWii? I heard it was dangerous I thought.
YES, you CAN fix it, but it is considerably harder.yeah you can but be careful because if it bricks, theres no way to fix it
There are craptons of Y-cables, here is the one @3bbb7 needs if he runs into further issues, which btw is in my stickied guide: Dual A to USB 3.0 Micro-B USB Y Cable.you need to get a y-cable hdd need more power on the wiiu and have to be plugged into both usb ports on the back of the wiiu. a y-cable allows this just ebay it.
I'd actually refrain from using MMM. I used to use it and as you figured out, it requires cIOS. I'd use YAWMM, in my sticky. Cyan and FIX94 suggested it to me and it does not require cIOS and is more stable.I didnt realize there were ports in the back, tried one and it works fine with my hdd now.
time to install devloution and ill be set
EDIT: I grabbed a wad of the hbc fix channel from hacksden and I got MMM 13.4 and tried to install the wad, but it says that it couldn't complete the installation?
It just says "1 did not complete" when trying to install.
The IOS selected is 58 v6432, im not sure if thats affecting it
EDIT 2: I selected 249 instead of 58 and it installed fine, so everythings all working fine.
thanks

Emulators don't come as wads. Use the above stickied guide to install emulators and their respective forwarder channels.Hi, is it possible to install emulators wad on VWii? Such as mame etc...
Why is this guide still a thing? Like, no offense to the OP, but it's hardly n00b friendly. And half the information is old and not well formatted. There is a vWii guide here: http://gbatemp.net/threads/full-vwii-softmod.339899/
You shouldn't run into a problem if you only use it for Devo/Backup loaders.
Don't do any of the advanced stuff like changing the theme etc, though.
Devolution works on vWii, but you need to verify the games on a normal Wii (since WiiU doesn't read GC discs).
It only needs to be done once per game.
And currently, there is no game-less exploit for vWii.
Well this entire thread is two years old..
It's actually only two years old unless I'm dumb......
More like 4. WTF keeps bumping this shit? This just happened to me over in the old vWii guide too. But whoever bumped / did whatever got me a notification must have deleted the post. https://gbatemp.net/threads/full-vwii-softmod.339899/page-28
EDIT:: Will never get used to the fact that you cannot delete your own posts in this forum. Idk what happened, but that thread was in my notifications too.

Lol, are you feeling okay?
Maybe this forum knows that you're one of the gods of vWii hacking so it automatically notified you.Yes, just tired I guess. I looked and saw OP joined in 2012. This thread was just unecessarily bumped by @Effi. -evil glare- Jk, I kid. But, Effi, please don't do that again. But seriously how in the hell did that one post wind up on my notifications?
