This is dumb I don't see any good reason opting for a more literal translation rather than a proper localization. With Ace Attorney, a literal translation will be a lesser experience compared to a proper localization; pun names are going to fall completely flat to English readers, Japanese-centric jokes and dialog will make little sense, and it won't remain consistent with the rest of the series. Will it be like AAI2's fan localization?
Not quite. We are simply doing a direct translation, however we will make sure it isn't awkward at all to read in English. But, we will not go out of way to "Americanize" any elements in the game.
Well if you think it's dumb you're always free to fuck-off and do it yourself...This is dumb I don't see any good reason opting for a more literal translation rather than a proper localization. Good post, really contributed to this thread. You refuted my points spectacularly.Well if you think it's dumb you're always free to fuck-off and do it yourself...

We are considering doing a literal translation first, and perhaps once that is finished, if people are up to the task, we will localize it later. This is dumb I don't see any good reason opting for a more literal translation rather than a proper localization. In other words, we're playing it safe. Some people complained with the AAI2 fan translation, saying that the original translation was botched and the localizers for that game had too much freedom. Whether or not that was true, it is up to each individual's interpretation.
If anything, we are thinking of releasing sort of like T/L notes to go along with patch releases. No promises though.
Minor side paths and a good half of case 5 is left, mostly.

How will it be released?
We are expecting to have an episodic release pattern.
We have no information regarding how the patch will be distributed. It will definitely be legal, though.
Check the OP. It will be updated once we have a release date. We don't have one at this moment.
You seem to have a misunderstanding in regards literal translations versus localizations. It's not a purely black and white thing, it's more like a scale. For example, the Persona games definitely lean more towards the literal-side of that scale, they use honorifics and keep a lot of Japanese-centric aspects because they expect their English audience (i.e. weebs) to be more familiar with Japanese culture than the average person. On the flip side, Ace Attorney has always sided heavily on the localization side of that scale and that has remained consistent throughout the entire series. We are considering doing a literal translation first, and perhaps once that is finished, if people are up to the task, we will localize it later.

There's no such things as "US localizations", you have no idea what you're talking about. A localization is a localization, there's no such thing as country specific localizations when you're dealing with one language (outside of stuff like British/American spellings of words, which is an incredibly minor issue). All Ace Attorney games have had English language localizations, so long as you have a decent grasp of the English language (which you seem to have) you'll be getting the exact same experience regardless of your country. Not everyone is from the US. An US localization would ruin it for me, as it does with almost 99% of every Japanese game. Let us not US people enjoy games as we desire for once, thanks.
