Our newest team member, chavosaur, has been quite the busy one, having spent some time on the Dynasty Warriors x Legend of Zelda spinoff Hyrule Warriors for the Nintendo Wii U. Read up on what he had to say in the latest GBAtemp review! Once again, GBAtemp would like to take a moment to thank Nintendo for providing us with the review copy.

Hm, was expecting to see an 8/10 or 9/10 considering this forum's filled with Dynasty Warriors' fanatics who stick up for it constantly but actually going by the verdict he did a fine job of keeping it a balanced review.

If Nintendo releases a CD version of Hyrule Warriors on Club Nintendo I'll get that and not even bother with the game.

I just hope that Nintendo never does this bullshit again with any other of their franchises 'cause it's the lowest denominator possible to have it DW'd and to hell with Omega Force they just reskin games than actually making them feel different from each other!

"GBAtemp would like to take a moment to thank Nintendo for providing us with the review copy." WOAH. I never expected Nintendo to provide a review copy for a forum filled with pirates. Especially not after providing a more unbiased (therefore more negative) review of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS. This is beyond anticipation.

It's only one copy for them really, and it's not like everyone who visits this site pirates games. It's still good publicity.

As someone who bought Hyrule Warriors randomly, the game is pretty fun. Adventure Mode and Master Quest is where it is. I have never played any Dynasty Warrior Game til now.

I find it continually funny that the main thing everyone is focusing on is that Nintendo would give us these titles for review. We started as a Piracy site, but after 12 years, The Temp has grown into a viable source of gaming information and provides content for every interest in gaming entertainment (even the not so legal part.)

Just because we provide/host the information, doesn't make us a site to avoid, especially with all the hits GBATemp receives daily. There is no problem hosting the info, as log as we aren't the ones providing the content said means can lead to :P

Why is everyone so furious over this? While the game did not appeal to me, I still thought that having a cross-over with another series' playstyle was an interesting idea. (Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, anyone?) Dynasty Warriors might be a played-out franchise, but I don't see why that garners so much hate for Hyrule Warriors.

This review sucks.

No offense for the writer, I'm sure he is a nice guy, has many women and a Bugatti. But this review looks like somebody took the game, played for 5 minutes and looked up for the story online and screenshots.
What I read was a grocery list of the game. It's a mini-review. By what I just read, I can't justify the score. I just don't know enough about the game, other than it has X and Y and Z. I was very interested in this review because I know nothing about Dynasty Warriors and don't give a fuck about Zelda games. But this review is disappointing.

I definitely have to take responsibility for this review because I was the one who was provided the code, which I gave to chavosaur. Please also go a little bit easy on him, he's a relatively new reviewer with us, and we're still working with him, so please be a bit patient while we go through our process.

You guys have valid criticisms about the review's structure, which I will definitely be discussing for future, and again, I apologize if the review was under par for the GBAtemp standard. It's a bit late to change the overall review, but future reviews will hopefully fix this problem.

I assure that I did spend enough time with the game, but I realize I didn't put enough of my own voice into the review. I apologize for my lack of detail and will try to fix it in the future. In defense of my work just a tad though, Hyrule Warriors Did not really give me a lot to talk about. As I said in my writing, the game feels very hollow and relies heavily on a mash A to win style. There aren't very many segments that take advantage of any fluid controls or actions, and has very light reliance on any real strategy. And even that strategy can fall simply into, "Wait til shiny bit shows, hit with a bomb, etc. "
I will use this criticism in my future endeavors though.

For his defense: The game really does not offer to much to write about. All the modes are in fact the same things in green / purple / yellow / 8-Bit / whatever. Combat is rather basic then deep and for the strategy part .. wait, the game does not offer that either. At least not what I call strategy.

You could have wrote more, sure - but I would not change the fact what this game is and what it lacks. ;)

He more or less covered all of it that was needed, and for everyone who knows this, it is just a generic Dynasty Warriors game cocked up with Zelda skins and sold as a "Nintendo Wii U" exclusive because of it.

Sure he could go into deep detailing but seriously, this game lacks to even be remotely good to reward him in that aspect.

IIRC that there were people complained about a different reviewer (from another forum) wrote a short review about Smash 3DS as if it was a bad thing, but honestly, there's just so much that one can go on detailing all there is about Smash. It's a replica of the home console Super Smash Bros. game on a handheld this atta be enough!

I could make a longer review on Asteroids for the Game Boy. Not because I consider myself better than him (as I said, I'm sure he's a nice guy and all), but because I consider this review as bad as a grocery list. You can do way better than that.

Sounds like what 95% of the people who talk about Final Fantasy XIII on this site did :D

As one of the supposed 5% they did not miss out on anything except boredom, an even more nonsensical story that did not get explained (basically at all and definitely not where a normal playthrough would have found it) and a terrible combat engine not improving.

As for the review at hand the game always looked like Dynasty warriors with a twist (note twists are better than skins), some seemed to play the second coming of the twice resurrecting ninja king card a bit too heavily though. Other than music I am not what I would really have to elaborate upon. Mind you the snub towards local co-op there means duelling swords in the staff lounge next full moon.

What I am interested in seeing would be if someone changes their opinion on the dynasty warriors concept (even if it is trickery).

As for Nintendo sending the unspeakable horror that they surely consider GBAtemp a review copy I would suggest those that find it odd hold no aspirations towards being accountants.
